Yes, one left.

Please let it be Pete Carroll....please?

It’s not something crazy like Shula, is it?  my other guess would’ve Harbaugh (the other one), but both these guys have a SuperBowl that makes up for a number of early flameouts.

No to Reeves, Carroll, Shula and J. Harbaugh.

So the one left is inactive but still alive?

Great question.  I had to look up the answer.  Per Wikipedia, yes, he is listed on the Bill Walsh coaching tree.

Man oh man, must've looked at everyone but - Jeff Fisher (asst under Seifert in the early 90s)?

Now that we're on the eve of the World Series...World Series sweeps are relatively rare. There have only been four this century.

What was the last team to sweep in the World Series?

RE: Sports trivia thread 2025 - BobK - 10-24-2025

I just know the giants in 4. 1954

Didn't they pull it off under Bochy? IIRC, the Royals series was tight so either 2010 (Rangers?) or 2012 (Tigers)

Edit: I just remember brooms and cablecars in one of those SF St parades :-)

You got it, PalmTree. Giants defeated the Tigers in four games in 2012, the last MLB team to sweep a World Series.

What college football team went undefeated, won their conference, was voted National Champ in the Coaches Poll and outscored their opponents 367-40 and yet did not go to a bowl. Why?

Note: they were not on probation.

RE: Sports trivia thread 2025 - BostonCard - 10-24-2025

WAG, they were integrated and opponents refused to play them?

RE: Sports trivia thread 2025 - BobK - 10-24-2025

No but that’s a good answer As in USF 1951. But not the answer

Another WAG - was this during WWI or WWII?

RE: Sports trivia thread 2025 - Mick - 10-24-2025

I'm going to guess it was a mid-century Pac-8 team for two reasons:

1. For a long time, western teams -- only Pac-8 teams -- could go to the Rose Bowl. There weren't many other Bowls out west.
2. There was a time a Pac-8 team couldn't go to consecutive Rose Bowls.

Just playing the odds, I'd say either USC, UCLA or Cal. Or the 1951 USF Dons. Or Michigan State.

RE: Sports trivia thread 2025 - BobK - 10-24-2025

Excellent Mick. Ucla is the answer and they went to the Rose Bowl in 1953. So despite their 1954 record and beating Stanford 72-0 they couldn’t go again with the no repeat rule
