RE: Sports trivia thread 2025 - BostonCard - 10-24-2025

Interesting bit of trivia after today’s Dodgers-Jays game.  Today was the fifth time that a team that swept the LCS went up against a team that took 7 games to win their LCS.  After today, the sweepers are 0-5 versus the 7-gamers.

Another crazy stat from today’s game.  Addison Barger’s grand slam was the first pinch hit grand slam in WS history.

Note: they were not on probation.

Related… what college football team, coached by a former Stanford coach, went undefeated, untied, unscored upon, but was left uninvited to a college bowl?

Yoshinobu Yamamoto pitched a complete game in the World Series yesterday.  Who was the last pitcher to accomplish this feat?

Bumgarner? would have been 2014, I think.

As to the previous question
Colgate 1932 coached by Andy Kerr
Thank you Phogge

RE: Sports trivia thread 2025 - BostonCard - 10-26-2025

Yup.  Colgate was unbeaten, untied, unscored upon and uninvited to a bowl (Pitt was invited to the Rose Bowl instead).

Nope.

Clue:  He is a former Giant.

Cueto, the next year for KC.  I think he came to the Giants the year after.

Yep.

Yamamoto's CG was his 2nd consecutive post-season CG.  Who was the last pitcher to accomplish that?
Hint - he actually had 3 consecutive CGs, in the NLDS & NLCS.

RE: Sports trivia thread 2025 - PAsportsfan - 10-27-2025

Randy Johnson?

Not Johnson - but you are on the right track.

RE: Sports trivia thread 2025 - Mick - 10-27-2025

Clemens? Kershaw? Verlander? Scherzer?

RE: Sports trivia thread 2025 - terry - 10-27-2025

Curt Schilling?

RE: Sports trivia thread 2025 - skip75 - 10-27-2025

Well done Terry!
It was Randy Johnson's DBack teammate in 2001.
Schilling had 2 CGs vs. St. Louis in the NLDS, winning 1-0 in Game 1 & 2-1 in the winner-take-all Game 5.
In the NLCS, he went 9 innings again in a 5-1 Game 3 victory.
He gave up 11 hits, 2 walks, and 2 runs in those 3 games.
No CGs in the World Series vs. the Yankees, but he went 7 innings in Game 1 (a 9-1 win), 7-1/3 innings in Game 4 (a 4-3 loss), and 7 innings in Game 7 (a 3-2 win).  In those 3 WS games, he gave up 13 hits, 3 walks, and 5 runs.

Aaron Rodgers had a chance last night to become the 5th NFL QB to have a victory over all 32 current teams.  Who are the 4 that have accomplished that feat?

Tom Brady?

RE: Sports trivia thread 2025 - Mick - 10-27-2025

Brady, Favre, Brees, Archie, Eli, Peyton Manning.

RE: Sports trivia thread 2025 - skip75 - 10-27-2025

Well done by all of you - Peyton Manning, Brett Favre, Tom Brady, & Drew Brees.
Besides Rodgers, other active QBs with victories over 31 teams are Patrick Mahomes (obviously no wins over KC), Russell Wilson (Seattle), and Matt Stafford (0-3 vs. Pittsburgh).
Active QBs with wins over 30 teams are Josh Allen (Bills, Eagles), Joe Flacco (Ravens, Seahawks), & Kirk Cousins (Bengals, Chiefs).

The Jays and dodgers are still going in the bottom of the 15th inning as I wrote this, making it the second longest World Series game ever.  Which was the longest?
