Have we had a #1 overall recruit.

And this video shows why.

One play, three pancake blocks.  Easy, peasy.

Nice overview of Stanford recruiting

In the revised listing just released Little indeed moved up to #1 but unfortunately Sarell dropped to #8.

Yeah, and we came pretty close to landing Phillips which would have meant we still would have had the top two and three in the top ten.
I had always hoped he might have a change of heart but it doesn't look like he is going to.

Re: Class of 2017 - 2006alum - 01-17-2017

So impressive that we have commitments from four of the 32 five-star recruits according to 247.

Re: Class of 2017 - fullmetal - 01-17-2017

247 gives Stanford a 9% chance even though Phillips is listed as being committed to UCLA (Scout says he signed a NLI on 1/9/2017).  So you're telling me there's a chance...

Fasani was #1 overall?  Guess I have forgotten any HS hype about him.  What about Chris Lewis? Was he top 5?

Randy Fasani was the #1 overall recruit by SuperPrep and the consensus #1 QB by the other recruiting services.

Chris Lewis was not ranked as high by the recruiting services but he was the Gatorade National Player of the Year and a first team Parade All America as a senior in high school.

Thanks, DC.  I knew that I remembered some national honors for Lewis. Amazing that Lewis and Fasani were on the team at the same time sharing the starting QB in 2000 and 2001.

Discussion of Leonard Warner on UGA site. Note the comments too. We are selling the right way. The right kids will self select for us.

Is highly-rated Baron Browning the younger brother of Barry Browning, who played cb for us?  If so, does anyone know how he made his decision?

It is Barry's younger brother.

His final six was Ohio State, Michigan, TCU, Alabama, UCLA, Florida State.

Indeed, Randy Fasani (from my high school) was the #1 recruit.  Here's a history of #1's and what happened to them (from 1986 to 2010):

Interesting article.  There's some bay area contacts there;

- Ricky "For Who?  For What?" Watters was probably the best player, played for the 49ers for three years..  He had 7 1,000+ yards rushing seasons, although interestingly only one for the 49ers, who traded him after three years.

- Jeff George wore out his welcome with the Raiders, but had his second best season in twelve year career with the Raiders.

- Anquan Boldin played for a few tough years for the Niners, he did pretty well.

- Terry Kirby who did pretty well for the niners and had really good hands.

- Ted Ginn was a bust for the 49ers, had two of his best years at the ages of 30 and 31 this year and last.

- Amani Toomer and DJ Williams both played at De La Salle,

- Randy Fasani, QB at Stanford

Re: Class of 2017 - BobK - 01-17-2017

We have a softball player at Stanford from Del Oro

Re: Class of 2017 - Phogge - 01-18-2017

Before the star system Gene Washington was arguably the #1 player in the country.

Lund has stated in interviews that he is not taking a mission.

Re: Class of 2017 - OutsiderFan - 01-18-2017

Everyone is assuming - self included - that Lund will be a RB, but is it possible he could play LB?
