Also, some kid named Andrew Luck.
As for Robinson's SAT score, it doesn't get released until May 10.

Unless he got some sort of special dispensation, this is after Stanford has closed its entering class of 2016, so Stanford is out of the picture, unless he elects to enroll in 2017.

It sounds like Stanford is out of the picture here (not too surprising). One thing I'm a bit confused about--many have referred to May 1 as Stanford's binding deadline for enrollment. However, I seem to remember that Jameis Winston got into Stanford and delayed his decision until mid-summer. Am I misremembering, or he did get some sort of exception for his decision deadline? It's not intuitive to me why May 1 would be a binding deadline given that football recruits normally get their admissions decisions on a rolling basis.

No, Winston signed in February.

There are always exceptions to every rule. I had a classmate at the GSB who applied in May or June, right after he sold his second company, and was accepted immediately for the following September.

I agree with you Nan3cy. There is always a place to be found for the truly exceptional candidate. There seems to be a consensus that Robertson is a 5***** football player. There is also evidence that he really wants to matriculate at Stanford and that he has significant talents and interests and ambitions outside of football. Re: SAT scores, he will probably be an outlier vis a vis his fellow members of the class of 2016, but so what? Demetris has grit. He could easily dump Stanford before we dump him and have a satisfying life playing and studying at GA, GT, Bama, etc. etc., but he hangs in there, doing his best to follow what seems to be his dream, and dodging all the slings and arrows of outrageous SAT expectations with dignity and respectful silence all the time.
I would love to see this young man at Stanford, whether he plays football for us or not.

Not that he would consider it, but is the Bailey McElwain route available to Demetris?

If there weren't a chance of an exception would he have retaken the SAT?

I believe that he has the chance.
And I also believe that anyone who is such talented
AND truly values the opportunity should have the chance.

Well it does seem the longer Robertson waits, the more the odds - no matter how slim - increase that he goes to Stanford. I mean it's April 14. The last SAT results come out in less than a month. If Stanford was not an option, why would he still not have made a commitment somewhere?Â
The arrests this week of two Georgia football players probably doesn't exactly help their cause with Robertson.Â

Winflop, impatience with Robertson makes zero sense for anyone who hopes he chooses Stanford. UGA, GT, Ca.l, and ND fans are the ones who should be hoping for a quicker resolution, so they know Stanford isn't an option for him. Or alternatively, start being impatient some time after learning Robertson achieved a high enough SAT score on his March 5 test. Results come out on May 10.

I think you are correct. Lorig signed with Stanford four months after signing day. That had to be at least June, but I'm pretty sure Lorig had already been admitted before signing day, so not quite similar circumstances.

Apart from getting closure (which he no doubt wants even more than us) this isn't blocking anything. Not like a Collins/Okafor situation. That was a painful miss.

If I recall the Lorig situation correctly, Lorig's deadline to respond to the admissions office was May 2, the same deadline that applied to all admitted Stanford applicants. (May 1, the customary deadline, was a Sunday that year.) Lorig missed the May 2 deadline by two days. Stanford eventually excused his tardiness. I believe there was some kind of miscommunication with the Lorig family that caused Stanford to be lenient in that case.

normally the March SAT scores would be available well before May 1, but the College Board is delaying the reports for the March test because it was the first administration of the "new" SAT test and I assume they need extra time to analyze the results to find problems.
Re: The Demetris Robertson saga takes another interesting turn -
BostonCard - 04-14-2016
Also, they are delaying the results released until after college enrollments are finalized to avoid an apples to oranges comparison, where a small number of students apply their scores to the entering class of 2016, while most used the old test.

I wonder when our Wait List applicants get word on their status? My guess is that's the true Stanford deadline. I have a friend/ex-roommate with a kid on the waitlist - we ae all rooting for him. /Lefty

I suppose it is possible; Stanford makes final decisions on folks on the waitlist before July 1.

They don't say how long someone who has been offered a spot off the waitlist has to respond.

Re: The Demetris Robertson saga takes another interesting turn -

It sure seems to me that Stanford admissions would have to be giving Robertson some pretty preferential treatment right now, for Stanford to still be an option for him. The school would have to have reserved a spot in the class for him because if he was waitlisted there is no guarantee there would be an open spot for him - or anyone else - due to first round admits declining to enroll. Would Stanford allow one more in the class than it was planning, if Robertson should achieve the requisite SAT score from the March 5 test? That seems unlikely.
