Re: Week 1 Games of Interest - stupac2 - 09-03-2016

Never play Alabama off of a long break. I wouldn't be surprised if Saban is >90% in games he's had more than a week to prepare for.

Also, getting taken to the woodshed by the #1 team in the country is a different thing from, say, losing to an FCS team at home (cough WSU cough). Though I guess WSU has pulled within 3.

10!

Wazzu's defense looks...less than good.

Re: Week 1 Games of Interest - stupac2 - 09-03-2016

I like the stat that Mike Leach is 0-4 (soon to be 0-5) in openers at WSU. You have months and months to prepare for a garbage FCS team, just get the damn job done!

USC's team looks...less than good.  I realize it is Alabama, but... ouch.

Also of note: Marks has been consistently gimpy.

Re: Week 1 Games of Interest - 82 Card - 09-03-2016

OK. I exaggerate a bit about SC. There will be great breaks given because it's SC and the loss is to Alabama. Still, I don't think a close game would look good on playoff resume and a loss would be deadly. Of course, I don't care so much about playoffs as long as Stanford can win the league.

A loss would not be deadly! Last year ever single team in the playoff had a loss!

Enh, doubt it, don't think people really remember or care about early-season stuff by the end of the year as long as it's not an embarrassingly bad loss.

Shoot, Oklahoma struggled with Tennessee and lost to Texas last year and made it into the playoffs.

Re: Week 1 Games of Interest - needle - 09-03-2016

I was very entertained by SC's defeat.

Re: Week 1 Games of Interest - 82 Card - 09-03-2016

I think that qualifies as an embarrassingly bad loss, for the league.

... Washington State gave up 606 yards ...

... at 9.2 yards per play.

That number is so high that I wondered whether it was some kind of record. Nope. In 2014, Cal gave up 751 yards against WSU.

They might...Utah State is pretty tough.  45-6 win over Weber State...

After all that carnage, anyone feeling better about coming away with a 13-point win against a P5 team?

Re: Week 1 Games of Interest - Hurlburt88 - 09-04-2016

Yes I am.  I have to admit that yesterday I awoke pleased we won, yet seriously concerned about the O-line, lack of Love, and injury to Phillips.  I remain concerned, yet also know that we seems to have a history of figuring things out as the season progresses, and we have a lot of overall speed & talent.  Here's to 2 weeks of productive practice!Â
