Re: Stanford - Rice game thread - stupac2 - 08-26-2017

Can we put Costello in? Burn has just not looked good, I want to at least see someone we haven't before.

Shaw mentioned in a pre-game radio interview that JJAW went through warm-ups with the team, but would not play. He seemed to indicate that he was on track to be back soon.

Re: Stanford - Rice game thread - lex24 - 08-26-2017

is it wrong of me to hope Rice scores

Agreed--yugely annoying.  Glad my mute button works.

That was some throw from Costello to Smith.

holy cow Costello looks good!

Re: Stanford - Rice game thread - lex24 - 08-26-2017

Big time arm. And he looks accurate.

Seriously. On target and decisive. Honestly he might even look better than Chryst, though I have no idea if Rice still has the 1's in.

KELLY probably thinks about his time coaching Ertz in Philly more than that game.

Perez is in, even though we wasn't on the depth chart.  And . . . Rice is moving the ball.  :-\

I'd like to see Costello vs the 1s. It's too bad we don't have another warm up game before SC.

I have to admit, I'm glad they scored

Re: Stanford - Rice game thread - CornFed - 08-26-2017

Rice is overmatched and demoralized.  I am delighted that we look so good, but Rice is contributing to this.  Have we gotten much real pressure on Rice's qb's?  I am soooo looking forward to our game vs. U.S.C.  They might actually underestimate us by thinking too much of this is because Rice is so weak.

Re: Stanford - Rice game thread - JJJ - 08-26-2017

I think Costello elevated himself to #2 today.

Re: Stanford - Rice game thread - BostonCard - 08-26-2017

Gotta say, Sydney looks amazing.  And for Rice, this is a tough game, but this is a great experience, since it looks like this is the closest they will get to a bowl game.

Re: Stanford - Rice game thread. Playing the Frosh - ADPATERSON - 08-26-2017

No doubt Shaw is using Frosh if they can contribute right away.
+ Wedington is a starter (or in a lot), as alternative to B.the.Love.
+ All the TEs are going to be available and pose matchup headaches for LBs.
+ Sarell & Little will NOT red-shirt; that seems clear.

- Did not see Lund (#25) at RB
- No action by DW Perry at DT (#50)
- Did not see OSt.Brown (#81) at WR... red shirt?  Shaw seems happy with the WR/TE Corp.

With Davis Mills waiting in the wings behind Costello, and Tonner McKee (6'6" 220) lined up for 2018, we are solid at QB through 2022.
Agree with comments above -- Costello > Burns.

Re: Stanford - Rice game thread - BostonCard - 08-26-2017

McKee will take a mission, so he might as well be a 2020 QB.

Re: Stanford - Rice game thread - BostonCard - 08-26-2017

The amazing stat is that we have Over 350 yards of passing offense, yet no receiver has more than 60 yards.
