There are numerous MA programs at Stanford that are far less selective than the undergraduate program, not to mention that Stanford has a strict and very low number of transfer slots open for the undergraduate class as a whole. Brooke Smith was exceptional as I understand it since I believe she had been accepted by Stanford before going to Duke, then transferred after a year at Duke. I'm trying to remember any other WBB player who transferred in as an undergraduate.
Tara also feels a responsibility to use her 15 scholarships and not hold them in reserve. I can't remember a verbatim quote, but at one point she noted that it wasn't right to deprive a kid of a chance for a Stanford education as part of a strategic basketball decision. That is, after all, why we often have a number of players on the team who almost never reach the floor. They contribute in practice and they receive a degree. Not a bad work-study program.
The fact that an extra scholarship just opened up does create some possibilities, though.
+1 to this. As a transfer myself (in Brooke Smith's transfer class no less!), can definitely attest that the odds for admission are even longer than as a frosh applicant. And as far as I know, she's the only prior undergrad transfer to Stanford WBB, and as 81 said, she's sui generis given she had already been admitted once.
Given how much recruiting is now shaped around the portal, I do think grad transfers will be a recurring feature of Stanford women's basketball, probably not so much for starters, but at least for utility/role players who can come off the bench. Hamilton gave us some nice minutes in a few games this season and my sense was that she was generally just a great spark for the team's chemistry as a whole. I kind of wish we had more time with her in a Cardinal uniform because the little I saw of her I liked a lot.

+1 to this too. She could be a great pickup too. She's not quite as fast as the Hulls, but has a similar skillset in terms of both being able to
get to the basket and also launch a barrage of treys when left open:

I imagine she would fill a similar role to Hannah Jump, with possibly a bit more of an active guard role on the defensive end. She would not, however, be a partial solution to our PG question marks.

Right. Tara specifically mentioned these at the banquet yesterday. Also said that the team would be going to Hawaii for Thanksgiving.

Why would Meyers know the offense? Princeton doesn’t necessarily run the Princeton offense IIRC.

The Princeton men ran the Princeton offense

Yeah, it was called the Princeton offense because it was developed by Pete Carril, longtime head coach for the Princeton (men). Carril retired in 1996, and I have no idea if the Tigers still run the offense, or if the women’s basketball team ever did. Evidently my joke bombed, but that’s ok, I’ll be here all week.

I wish her all the best.
Short discussion on TOS. Will be tough to make WNBA roster - need to find a team that puts a premium on her "Swiss Army Knife" game.
Europe will be there, though, regardless.
Indiana sure doesn’t think so. She still does have to make the roster, but you don’t use a sixth pick in the first round on someone you aren’t highly confident will make the roster. This isn’t quite “the Lopez brothers are really stiff territory”, but not one of your better takes.

That was LW on Brook having stiff hips. IIRC, I agreed that Robin could have as long an NBA career, based solely on his defensive capabilities. But in truth, I didn't think either would last as long as they have.
We'll see about Lexie. I agree at that pick she will, barring something kooky, make the roster. After that . . . we'll see.
Apparently, Indiana values Swiss Army Knives . . .
P.S. Still expect her to play in Europe (as many WNBA players do).

Right. And that wasn’t even LW’s worst take; predicting that the 1999 team that subsequently went to the Rose Bowl was garbage (to paraphrase “he’s not young; he sucks”) still ranks as an all-timer.
And ye, Lexie will almost certainly play somewhere else (likely Europe) in the WNBA off-season; as you point out, most do.

There's rumblings that Jana Van Gytenbeek is in the transfer portal out of Stanford.
I can't find anything to confirm, but there are some tweets out there.

Wow wow wow. I'm so sorry to hear this. And I have to wonder what happened here.
It's been a while since a WBB player transferred out before getting her Stanford degree—an opportunity that JVG would be giving up by transferring at this point. For those who've gone that route, I had the vague sense that there were either clashes with the coaches or issues over whether they'd see the court. Jana was clearly going to be a key player for us next year now that we've lost Anna, Jordan, the Hulls, and apparently Jenna Brown. And I've never gotten the impression that she and Tara had issues. Tara was very complimentary of her at the banquet, and she certainly seems quite close with her teammates. This is a real head-scratcher for me—and a real loss for us.

I'm sure there's something not in public yet because I don't get it. A paid for Stanford degree IMO is worth infinitely more over one's life time than two seasons of college basketball. Everyone sees things differently so good luck to her. Of course she can always come back to finish the degree on her own dime.
