My God, if even one of those allegations is true that's horrible. What a disgrace, if true, and hard to believe that at least some of it is not true.

I'm sad these charges have been made about Molly, and will be even more sad if they are true.  Will be interesting to see if USF appears on our schedule next year.

RE: WBB transfer portal - WBB fan - 04-19-2022

Re the charges against Molly, I have no inside knowledge if they are true or not, but my experience is that when multiple charges of this sort are made, there's something to them. I hope not given Molly's history with the Stanford WBB, but I suspect that something bad had been happening. If so, that's really a shame, and I have to wonder what's going on with her.  All great coaches are critical of their players, tough on them at times, but it's a question of how they go about that and how the criticism is balanced with positive support. What's being described about Molly, if true, is simply unacceptable.

Two grad transfer announcements: Brynna Maxwell from Utah to Gonzaga (apparently with two years of eligibility remaining). Peanut Tuitele from Colorado to Cal. Good pickups for both teams.

Baez87 - Baez87 - 04-22-2022

It is my understanding that this large stirring of the transfer-portal pot will return to some degree of normalcy next year when most hold-over players on teams from the Covid years extention have moved on. Am I right in assuming that transfer-portal players will, once again, have to sit out one year before transferring to another team in a year or so as they had to in the pre-Covid period. If true, this could reduce the lure of moving on to greener pastures.
I don’t have similar optimism on the NIL, although that practice is bound to run into a variety of bumps and starts, and players with false hopes might have to rein in their enthusiasm and, perhaps, look for ways to share the wealth with their teams. I can see how both practices could have negative effects on the college game, but I prefer a "wait and see approach" before before being drawn into a worst case future for women's basketball.
I’ve just enjoyed the sport so much over the last several years to want to be drawn into a dark spirit about it.

Incorrect, players will continue to be immediately eligible.

It is true there will be fewer players in transit now that additional years of eligibility due to Covid is over.

Incorrect for most players who have transferred previously.

Horse's mouth
Quote:Q1: What criteria does the student-athlete need to meet in order to utilize the new Division I
one-time exception to seek immediate transfer eligibility?
A1: In order to meet the criteria of the one-time transfer exception, the student-athlete must:
» Transfer from a four-year collegiate institution to an NCAA Division I school;
» Leave their current four-year school academically eligible;
» Have not transferred previously from another four-year institution, and
» Certify in writing, along with their new head coach, they did not have direct or
indirect communication with the new school’s athletics staff prior to entering the
NCAA Transfer Portal.
Additionally, a student-athlete must provide their current school with a written request to
enter the NCAA Transfer by May 1 if they participate in a fall or winter sport, or July 1 if
they participate in a spring sport to use the one-time exception. Other rules (e.g.,
disciplinary suspension at the previous school, transferable credits accepted by your new
school, sport specific midyear transfer rules) may also factor into the campus compliance
administrator’s certification of transfer eligibility.

A3: Generally, a student-athlete who has previously transferred from another four-year school
would not qualify for the one-time exception. There is an additional exception to this
application if their previous transfer was due to the discontinuation or no sponsorship of
their sport at their original school.

True, although very few players fall into this category, I took the question to mean reverting to the previous rules.

RE: WBB transfer portal - triangle2 - 04-23-2022

Taylor Jones from Oregon State to Texas. I wonder how long it will take for her to learn Vic Schaefer maul-ball.

RE: WBB transfer portal - Phogge - 04-23-2022

"maul ball?" Just recruit a female Jim Loscutoff.

Taylor Jones Transfer
That would make more sense a year or two ago.  If she thought Rueck would have more success with Oregon State than Schaeffer will have with Texas I doubt this would happen, after 3 years in Corvallis.  But coming back to a coach that recruited her and her home state certainly makes it easier.

Oregon State was losing elite players to transfer (Slocum) even before this--makes me wonder if Rueck has even more of a problem than "normal."
Or is it the depressive Oregon weather?

I am grateful that Stanford's team is not a revolving door, but it now seems all our opponents will be rescrambling their teams on an annual basis.  Organizationally that can't be good for them, but I also don't like it as a fan.  I've enjoyed getting to know our opponents and their tendencies.

RE: WBB transfer portal - kat0189 - 04-24-2022

I find it so ironic or bizarre that Rueck seemed to have more success with JUCO players and even holding tryouts looking for players from the regular student body at one point, ultimately making the Final 4 with only 1 top 50 ranked player (Weisner, though Wiese should've been), then regressed once he started reeling in All-American recruits.

That said, the two All-American bigs coming in look solid, and their games could really complement one another. And considering Von Oelhoffen could overlap with them 3 seasons, they could still very well make noise once again. Perhaps those three + some good chemistry will be a better formula for success. Sometimes when a program "gets hot" and garners sudden interests from recruits, they start to sign the best available or highest ranked available without thinking of fit, need, or other considerations.

I remember a poster one said Scott Rueck was known as "the post whisperer" for how he developed Ruth Hamblin and Gulich. Didn't work out as well with Taylor Jones and Kennedy Brown but hopefully he can reclaim his crown in developing Gardiner and Beers.

Also, Cal picks up shooting guard Kemery Martin from Utah. Averaged 11ppg as a sophomore though only played a few games last season. Could have 3 years eligibility. Ranked top 50 by Hoopgurlz and Prospects Nation coming out of high school

RE: WBB transfer portal - mbdude - 04-24-2022

Kennedy Brown to Duke!
