Washington has plenty of athletes on defense and they attack. Stanford has zero game changers on defense and as usual with Anderson play a passive defense because they have to. The only thing epic about Stanford football is the epic tournover ratio.

Your math is perfect. Stanford football has now entered an era that has been in the making since 2016. Poor coaching, inconsistent recruiting, shoddy player development, inadequate S&C training (and the attendant injuries) and a lackluster competitive culture have cratered this once stellar program. Gone. Only brief flashes of excellence now and then visible against a backdrop of mediocrity.
So much for being a "tiger in the weeds". I was hoping Shaw's preseason assessment was correct, but now it is abundantly obvious that he was merely dreaming.
It's hard to imagine a path out of this. Even if the necessary changes are made to the program leadership, there are a host of forces (NIL, the transfer portal, conference realignment, etc.) conspiring against Stanford's return to consistent success (and right now, merely becoming bowl eligible on a regular basis would qualify as "consistent success"). Frankly, I am not hopeful. Shaw is clearly NOT the one to lead the program out of its current malaise. But who is?
My prediction for next week: same thing, just a bit further south.

An embarrassing game led by a coach who doesn’t seem to get it.
The team played with minimal fire at a miserable pace with sloppy results. That’s on the coaches.
We are a trash program. The Stanford halo is the only thing keeping us from being compared to truly awful football programs.
I’m embarrassed for the players and just pissed at all the millionaires making bank off this abortion of a football product.

Mediocrity to me would be around a 6-6 record.
Maybe we find a way to beat Arizona State and perhaps one more. Have a hard time seeing us doing much better than that.

I want to know who came up with the boneheaded idea of running RPO when you have a slow, immobile, and INJURY-PRONE QB. RPO doesn't work if the QB isn't a legitimate threat to run, just like the wildcat doesn't work when there's no motion (threat to run it wide) and you never throw out of it
Normally I'd say it's the OC, but who knows if it really was Pritchard. Maybe it was Shaw. Maybe just fire both of them after the season.
I'm not a fan of firing coaches mid-season unless there's a serious issue involving misconduct of some kind. But at this point I'm leaning towards needing a complete housecleaning from Shaw down, with the possible exception of Alamar. This is a program in complete disarray.

You just aren't smart enough to see the genius that will be revealed once the offense is installed by midseason. At that point the immobile quarterback will be on crutches. See how this works?
Last night reminded me of #partyinthebackfield but with the other side throwing the bash.

I heard, or read, that Shaw was impressed that Wake Forest had come back from the dead by implementing the slow rpo. Wake lost to Clemson yesterday after two overtimes. Wake's qb, Sam something, threw for six TD's. I don't know if Wake's qb is more nimble than McKee, but last night's highlights don't show him being sacked. I wouldn't be surprised if McKee and others are asking if it should continue. When he just passed from a regular formation, he was fine when there was some protection.

McKee did look okay against Colgate in our former offense, correct?

I'm a hawk on firing coaches mid-season, but I wouldn't want this for Shaw this year. No, I want this coach to finish out 2022 as a revelation, an encore to what we got last year and the year before the runt "pandemic" season. These results epitomize what Shaw II is, and the pile of crap the program has become. Anyone dreaming of some reversal instigated by this coach is, well, dreaming. Anyone not cognizant of what we're looking at right now has a cognition problem. It is self-delusion. You cannot right a sinking ship on which the helmsman feels nothing but fair winds and following seas. 1-11 or 2-10 might be the tipping point. Even for this guy.

So I guess you're not buying in that as soon as the new offense in fully installed by midseason, all will be well. . . .

I'm guessing that by then our entire starting OL will be out. You can't run an RPO if you don't have a good OL, no matter who the QB is. Lamar Jackson couldn't succeed behind what's left of ours.

Yes, you have a point. I would like to replace "against a backdrop of mediocrity" with "amidst a wasteland of futility".

I watched the Wake Forest game, their qb is similar to Kevin Hogan and David Mills in athleticism, he can make plays with his feet/legs both running and throwing.

I'm sure people screw up his name all the time. Davis has probably gotten used to it.
