RE: Sports Trivia 2023 - BostonCard - 01-11-2023

Kevin Love (31, 11/12/2010), Enes Freedom (30, 4/10/2021), Dwight Howard (30, 3/31/2018), and Andrew Bynum (30, 4/11/2012).

OK, Phogge's mention of Dikembe Mutombo, makes me curious about blocks.  Only three guys have ever blocked 14 or more shots in a game (Mutombo was not one of them).  Who were they?

14 blocks got to start with Wikt and Russell

No and no.

I made a mistake with the question, though, as the dataset I was looking at only went back to 1983, so there are actually four players with 14 or more shot blocks.  But neither Wilt nor Russell ever broke 10.

None of the games occurred after Y2K.  But only one of the four players is in the HoF.

Yes, Bol was a monster, with two 15 block games and a 13 block game.

Johnny Mathis High Jump

Great knowledge on Johnny Mathis. Apparently, at 5' 7", he made the Olympic team, but gave up on Melbourne for his singing career. . . .Methinks he could have still accomplished both.

How about Suzanne Somers? Isn't she in a HOF somewhere?

Johnny Mathis encouraged Bill Russell to do the high jump as well and 66 years later, Russell still holds the USF high jump record at 6'9.25".  Track and Field News ranked Russell the #7 high jumper in the world in 1956.

There aren't any baseball hall of famers from USF. Adam Cimber had a 3.5 career WAR as a relief pitcher, which was the highest from USF. He was quite a good set up man, led the league with 77 appearances last year. Probably not headed for the HoF. He's a very good pitcher, though, career 1.188 WHIP.

Dick Stanfel is in the NFL HoF. He was elected in 2016.

Suzanne Somers is in the Direct Marketing (infomercial) Hall of Fame and has a star on the Hollywood walk of fame.

Oh boy. Phogge is a camera or something of yours in the baseball Hall of Fame ?
John Lynch has iirc his uniform in the Baseball Hall of Fame

Blocks. Hakeem O

RE: Sports Trivia 2023 - BostonCard - 01-12-2023

Olajuwon had 12 blocks twice, but never more.

One of the four is a hall of famer.

RE: Sports Trivia 2023 - Phogge - 01-12-2023

Mick, au contraire but on a technicality.

Jerry Coleman played a year at USF after graduating from Lowell. He is in the Ford Frick Wing, (broadcasters).

And Johnny Mathis didn't go to USF!!!!!!! He was a Gator!!!! Give me a break.

And Bobbbbbbbbbb, my dad's Aekely tripod is in the Smithsonian.

Finally, who was the assistant PR man at USF during the undefeated/uninvited 1951 year?

RE: Sports Trivia 2023 - BobK - 01-12-2023

Pete Rozelle

Plus Phogge’s uncle has star on the Walk in Hollywood

RE: Sports Trivia 2023 - Phogge - 01-12-2023

Two stars actually. One for writing, one for directing.

Rozelle was the PR guy but who was his Number 2?

There are 8 players in MLB history with OPS over 1.000. Name them. Xtra points if you get in order.
