While the TV broadcasters said Wesselman, SEA radio and stats say it was Flintoft all night.

Iowas also posted a 10-7 victory over Nortwestern at Wrigley Field.
The sodded infield was a mess and neither team cracked 200 yards, unlike Stanford and WSU.
Iowas took over first place in the Big 10 West the same week the OC (coach’s son) was relieved of his duties effective at the end of the season. Iowa’s offense ranks dead last in all of FBS by a wide margin.

Weselman had the first punt, Flintoft (who is clearly better) rest of the way.

While I am ecstatic Stanford won, I think it is obvious that both teams offenses played horribly. It is always great when you scratch and claw out a win, and it indeed says something about the spirit and competitiveness of the team. However, it is clear we didn't play well. We just played slightly better than WSU.

Argh! A healthy scratch. I hope it's not leading to a portal departure. He's our most disruptive defensive lineman.

To put into context, "just slightly better than WSU" is well better than expected (the Cougs were favored by 13 or 14). Which is, of course, good.
So far this year Stanford's 5-4 against the spread, so no real strong trend of outperformance. Still, I think visually speaking the team looks far more motivated and well-coached than the backwash of the Shaw era, so the direction is positive in that sense.

agree 100%. and under Coach Taylor, we are now a second-half team.
would love to be a fly on the wall in the locker room at halftime.

IMO there is no question that the team looks far more motivated than Shaw's last two teams did. This team has a perception that they are getting better and that their best games are in front of them. That is a force multiplier, especially in games like the WSU game where victory is attainable through effort. Statistically, we "lost" the WSU game everywhere but on the scoreboard. That can be attributed in large measure to motivation, belief, and continued effort. This team has pretty reliably shown those attributes, which is indeed a "good thing".

I think I saw him in one sideline shot, looked excited and was congratulating a teammate. Hoping for the best that he sticks around. OTOH IMO he’s one of our best players and I would bet other schools are dangling a lot of dough in front of him.

Being forced to sit through a game at WSU in November could easily be classified as cruel and unusual punishment. Bad weather and bad field conditions. It is a real plus we didn't give the ball up for free more than we did.
