I don't understand this Detroit style, Chicago style, New York style nonsense. Pizza is pizza. If it takes more than 90 seconds to cook it it ain't pizza. If it is loaded with sauce, pineapple, artichokes, kale salad, whatever, it ain't pizza. Call it something else. Maybe it's delicious, but it ain't pizza.

We don't have an argument. You like Chicago style deep dish pies. Great. But they are not pizza. If they were you wouldn't have to call them "Chicago-style pizza," right? You would just call them pizza. Except they're not. And thanks, my kneecaps were broken in Hoboken. I don't need any more.

They would not. They cook pizza. Real pizza. Like please Lents in the north, pizza is meant to feed people quickly and cheaply. Both do an admirable job. Someone asked me recently, what is the national food of Italy? Spaghetti? I asked, where it Italy. Italy is not a complete nary in many senses. It is an amalgamation of disparate cultures. United, artificially, by the dialect of the Fiorintine.

Huh? If something cooks for 90 seconds or less, there is no way in hell it is a pizza. Are you talking about reheating something in the microwave? And 90 seconds would destroy a slice of pizza.
On the subject of Detroit pizza, I have never been to Detroit or even the state of Michigan. (Side bar: Already booked a flight to Baltimore for graduation next year because the round trip airfare is less than $300. This is on a real airline - Delta - but we have to stop in Detroit. Does a layover count for being in a state? On the ground...I'll probably even take a leak and therefore contribute to the Detroit River. If so, I'd be down to two states so that I can say I've been to all 50.)
But I did spend a summer working out of Edgemont, SD. Really hard, heavy work. 14 hours per day working in snake infested eastern Wyoming desert lugging explosives, seismic cable and two-stroke monsters call Punjars. All for $6 per diem. The best pizza I've ever had was dollar per slice pineapple and Canadian bacon at a hole in the wall on Second Avenue in Edgemont, SD. The proprietor was a Polish dude straight out of Detroit. Maybe it was the circumstances, but my impression of Detroit pizza circa 1981 is outstanding.
The bane of my existence between HS graduation and freshman year. The drill looks about right, but imagine bare chests soaked in a mixture of two cycle oil, sweat and horseflies; no personal safety equipment whatsoever, a pair of oil soaked jeans worn for three months straight without washing and nothing but sagebrush as far as the eye can see and rattlesnakes underfoot. I did have a sweetass tan, though. Showed up for rush parties in Atlanta and everyone thought I spent the summer in Florida. "Nah, Niobrara County..."

Jacketree, you have obviously never been to an authentic pizzeria. At 800 degrees plus, a true pizza does indeed cook in 90 seconds. Deep dish whatever probably takes a lot longer but, he hen, that's not a pizza.
I would like to let the Administrator know that I am feeling unsafe. The comments being made that disempower deep dish pizza are creating stress and discomfort for me. sarc/

Learn something new all the time. I need to find an authentic pizzeria and try real pizza. Unless the authentic pizzerias I've gone to cook it in 90 seconds and let it breathe for another 43 minutes and 30 seconds.....

When reheating anything with a crust in the microwave, I like to use very low power (about a 2 or 3 setting). It doesn't change the texture as much that way. A large slice could take 90 seconds.

Per your earlier post, I thought "if it's loaded with topings" it's not pizza.

I don't know about "anything with a crust" but the best way to reheat pizza is in a frying pan. If loaded with toppings, cover until the top is hot, the crust will be crisp.

Oh well, FWIW, I'm with Ferrari in that one can cook pizza in 90 seconds -that's what Neapolitans do at on a stone oven at about a million degrees and make the best pizza in the world, AFAIC. I'm not with him in that 90 seconds cooking time is a necessary condition to call it pizza.

Steak and Shake elsewhere is okay. Shake Shack is likewise decent--their ice cream (concretes?) are good but overpriced imo.Â

I haven't eaten at Steak 'n Shake in a long time, but I do have fond memories of the place from the '80s and early '90s. It's probably a situation where the reality of the food is a far cry from one's childhood memory of it. And if you're comparing it to Shake Shack, prepare to be disappointed. (Though perhaps they've overhauled and upgraded the menu substantially; otherwise I have a hard time seeing how they're going to be able to compete in the Bay Area.)

Personally, I don't understand the appeal of the fast casual burgers. They're way more expensive than fast food (last time I looked at this Five Guys was about twice as expensive as In n Out), but not that much cheaper than a sit-down place. They're better than fast food, but not by the same margin as the price, and they're typically way worse than a sit-down place. I just don't see the appeal of the Five Guys or Shake Shack or whatever when you look at the other options.
Incidentally, this is also why I don't understand arguments about whether [insert fast casual chain here] is better than In n Out. It's at least 50% more expensive, it had better be better!

I think the appeal is that they are fast, but not complete crap - actually food. I don't think anybody is claiming they are a higher order of food than what could be had at a sit-down place.

Right, but In n Out isn't complete crap either, and really Five Guys isn't wildly better than McDonald's. That's what I don't get, people claim that there's some brobdingnagian step up from fast food but there just isn't.
I also don't understand people who go to Chipotle in California. It's slower and worse and more expensive than a taqueria!

[snark]What I don't get is people who think their personal tastes are universally applicable.[/snark]
While I know In n Out is widely loved among many people, I don't think it is all that special. I also happen to have enjoyed Five Guys a bit more than InO and much more than McDonalds, even as I am aware that there are better options. I am also not especially price sensitive at that range. But I recognize that your mileage may vary and you feel differently. I just wish you'd accord me the same respect.

In 'n Out is very good for the money. However, I see it as bare minimum. Way better and better value than the likes of McD's but not comparable to some local chains and one-off fast casual places.
If you're in San Francisco, check out Super Duper burger, Whole Beast, Show Dogs and Popson's. Our suburban town in the east bay has two local places that make really good burgers, one of them with a large choice of local brews. With all the better quality local places available, I can't see going to Five Guys. Of course, that's just my taste. If I lived in a food desert, I probably would find Five Guys a great option.

[snark]Stop having bad opinions then![/snark]
I realize this is a topic where I'm pretty atypical, but I've also seen these discussions get really heated about which fast food/fast casual place is the best when none of them really seem worth the money to me. Maybe I've just been to bad Five Guys locations, I dunno, but they're just not worth the extra money (which isn't insubstantial and no one ever factors into the discussion).
