Re: Baseball Super Regional - Farm93 - 06-08-2014

Sigh,

This Stanford team did a great job.  They played the entire month of May with virtually no margin for error.  Then they went to Indiana a won the regional, and now have taken another #1 seed to a third game in the Super Regional.

Winning the Super Regional would have been great, but I suspect this season's strong finish will serve the program well.  (I hope)

I'm one proud alum.  They fought hard and played better than expected.

Well done Cardinal, but why do we have a picture of Errol Flynn above?

More relevant, from the late and great George Carlin:

Not quite a massacre of Little Big Horn proportions, but yeah, not our day. When you give up 15 hits and 5 walks, you're usually going to lose.

Or to put it another way, when you use 5 pitchers in one inning something really bad is happening. In this case it was in addition to not getting your starter through the first.

Errol Flynn?  I can see why you might go that way but George Armstrong Custer only THOUGHT he should be a matinee idol.  Or, well, he would have if he was born 50 years later.

I hear he left the bright lights of the East coast behind and took his act to Montana.  Neither he nor his career could be revived after that.

The sun doesn't shine on the same dog's ass every day. Right, Yellow Hair?

Quote:I've watched the Giants since the 70s and this is the hottest stretch I can remember.  - Lefty (June 9, 2014, above)

Giants prior to June 9:  14-3
Giants record June 9 and on:  5-17

Just saw my earlier post again today.  Either I forgot to knock on wood or the wood I rapped was actually vinyl.  THIS is why people adopt silly sport superstitions.

Re: Baseball Super Regional - Nan3cy - 07-04-2014

People have talked about the Giants' "June Swoon" for as long as I can remember. This just seems like an unusually egregious one.
