I am so glad that I was there that day. My brother in law were in the stands and were some of the few who actually seemed to be paying attention to the PA announcer. We were grinning ear to ear at the incisive wit. I knew there would be blow-back, but couldn't foretell the endless articles and talking heads. I was so disappointed when President Caspar apologized.

Really? Shaw is the perfect fit for Stanford, an alum, a great coach and a fine ambassador for the school. the University of Dead Fake Girlfriends has been hit with nothing but scandal after scandal since Kelly arrived, he generally looks as if his head is going to explode on the sidelines and he seems much more like a liability to the school than an ambassador. Kids go to Stanford because of Shaw; kids go to the University of Dead Fake Girlfriends despite Kelly.
I agree with Simas: the University of Dead Fake Girlfriends has not seen a defense like Stanford. Golson better be every bit the QB you think he is, because he's going to be running for his life all afternoon. The only thing that will keep the University of Dead Fake Girlfriends in this game is Stanford's red zone woes.Â
I expect a low scoring game with Stanford coming out on top 20-13 in OT. Golson is turned back on 4th down at the goal line after he trips on a term paper someone was writing for one of the the University of Dead Fake Girlfriends players that was blown onto the field by the ghost of Teo's fake girlfriend in a valiant effort to aid the team of her former school.
OK, so i thought this would be a game where i could come to the opposing teams message board and have an actual discussion about the game and get into specifics, but apparently not.
To clarify, I have nothing but respect for stanford AND shaw. I think he is a great fit and a perfect fit for Stanford. But i was asking specifically about coaching techniques. I think kelly has done more with less, but Shaw has been able to maintain what he has, so that is great to.Â
I was trying to keep this discussion about the game, but you can keep bashing ND for their mistakes, cause i am sure Stanford has always been perfect? I guess their is no mutual respect between universities that have higher standards.Â
But to try and get it back on track, I agree ND has not seen a defense like stanfords yet, but i think they have enough weapons IF the O-line can make some adjustments and play better than they have, that ND can compete with stanfords D. 20-13 OT is a fair guess, very possible. But why do you feel the need to keep slamming golson for the fact that he cheated? I suppose you have never made a mistake, when you did, did you stand up and take ownership? Would you have waited a whole year to play and come back when you had other colleges calling? Yes he screwed up, but im proud for what he has done since then!
Why do you think I was slamming Golson for the fact that he cheated? I didn't specify the player for whom the paper was being written and sadly it could apparently have been for any number of players. I respect the fact that Golson stood up and took ownership; I'd respect him a lot more if he'd never put himself in that position in the first place.Â
I'll echo the sentiment already expressed by others: I'm not sure what you expected to find here. I think the University of Dead Fake Girlfriends is a fine school, but it's no Stanford. I think Kelly is a decent football tactician, but I wouldn't want him coaching Stanford. I think Golson is athletically gifted, but I wouldn't want him as Stanford's QB. I think the University of Dead Fake Girlfriends is consistently ranked higher than it should be based on an outdated reputation. And I think Stanford's defense is too deep, too talented and playing too well for the University of Dead Fake Girlfriends to win, even though the game is in South Bend.Â
Remember this: two years ago, if the officials would have correctly ruled that Taylor scored in OT, and if the University of Dead Fake Girlfriends hadn't used players that were ineligible due to academic improprieties, Stanford may have won that game and gone on to play in the BCS Championship game, where they'd have given Alabama much more of a run for their money than the University of Dead Fake Girlfriends did. Stanford fans certainly have not forgotten. The team certainly has not forgotten. Payback will be sweet.
i took the papers comment in relation to golson cheating, sorry if that is not want you had intended, and as far as the other 5, we will find out the week what they did or did not do, so i am with holding judgement till then.Â
I guess i was mistaken in what i would find here, figured for "fighting words" but didnt expect to get into 6 pages of academic debate, lol, my mistake, will know in the future! I only asked the question of which qb would you want to start a debate about football and it quickly turned away from there, but hey, thats the way it goes, either way, i learned alot about stanford today. And you can want one coach over the other, but i think its just being stubborn if you wouldn't want golson over hogan, regardless of who wins this weekend. Stanfords D is deep and strong, so we will have to keep them guessing and see if we cant get lucky on that front.
I remember 2 years ago, it was a great game, and at least you are one of the few i have seen that realize if that call would have went the other way, stanford MAY have won that game (most people like to speak as if that would have won them that game), but i feel the call on the field was going to stand, Ultimately, i feel he got it, but i have seen video of the side judge blowing his whistle and running in before he got in and from his angle, its a hard call. And at this point Notre Dame did not use players that were ineligible, and no indication that that is going to change.
And Yes, ND, had a very poor game against alabama, you can not say stanford would have done any better, and clearly alabama was the better team, but if you rewatch that game, the refs were horrible - not saying that it would have resulted in ND magically winning, but since you brought up refs...

I think if we can get a couple of our suspended guys back (meaning they have been cleared) than i would say we could get one here, if they dont, its anybody's game.
Have these five players been practicing with the other players?
I don't think any coach would put players on the field who are not in game condition and aware of the game plan.
If they are cleared, then they will play - according to reports. They have been staying in shape and have had access to everything except for practice.Â
The NCAA will not even let players practice in pads until they have 3 days of non-pad training. I think you need to check your sources. If I am somehow wrong and Kelly puts them in the game, then it can only help Stanford. Have you noticed that football players tend to make a lot of mistakes the first couple of games?
The source is Kelly, so i dont know what the rules are in that situation. He has stated multiple times that if they are cleared on a friday, he will have them ready to play on saturday, so i guess we will find out. And those guys are certainly going to be rusty, but i think 2 of the 5 can still make a positive impacts.

The fact that NDI can still post on this board after calling our Founder and Board Administrator a POS is testament to the tolerance of theCardBoard. I've been down rabbit holes with Irish fans on other sprorts sites. It is never good. No amount of logic or well written argument will sway them. The teams will prove themselves on the field of play. Fans prove themselves on message boards by the word they write. IMO, NDI showed us his true colors by his words to Yvonne. Therefore, in the infamous words of several top contributors to this board when utterly disgusted by another member's post, NDI you are DEAD TO ME.

Stanford fans hold their players to very high standards on and off the field. Again, I don't know much about Golson this year, but based on the last time I saw him, I think he's the more dangerous quarterback. I still wouldn't want him running my team because of his history. You say he's paid his debt. I'd still rather have someone who was never tarnished. Hogan is something like 10-2 against Top 25 competition. Sure, he's had a great defense and running back for a lot of those wins, but he's made the plays when they counted.

I've never really understood going on an opposing fan board for that kind of discussion. It's just not the point of those boards.

I don't really care one way or the other what you do, but if you're going to come in here and talk about the team it makes more sense to
ask questions about our team. Which (as far as I can tell) you haven't done. All you did was say a bunch of rationalizations equivalent to "I'm a big homer for my team" (which we are too, so I'm not disparaging) and give a prediction. That's not really how you start a conversation, and being overly defensive about your school's reputation when you're in hostile territory isn't helping anything.
If you want to have a discussion, ask us about our team, or at least show that you know anything about us at all. Ask about matchups, say what you think about key ones. That sort of thing.

ND Irish:
For what's it's worth, I experienced your initial posting in the spirit that you have described it. I regret that the direction of this discussion largely turned away from an analysis of X's and O's, coupled with light-hearted jousting, and instead digressed into what I consider excessive bashing of ND and defensiveness about the attributes of Stanford. Seems your postings hit some nerves, but I did not experience them as critical or worthy of such sensitive responses from my fellow alumni. As a rule, I don't like it when the discussion turns to the attributes of my alma mater. I'm proud to have attended Stanford, and I believe others hold the school in high esteem. Enough said. I downright hate it when the discussion turns into variations of "our school is better than your school." I always though we were better than that.
I would also like to echo the comments of a previous poster who has attended games at ND. I have been to 3 or 4, usually with a blend of Chicago-based alumni from both schools, and I've always had a very pleasant time. Those in green have always treated me very well, even as I am decked out in bright red. I cannot remember anyone who was other than gracious in victory or defeat. I love the ND campus; it's expanse reminds me of Stanford. Though not Catholic, I think I would have had a very good experience if I'd attended ND.
I appreciate you sticking your neck out by posting on this site, and I regret that the exchange was not as pleasant or respectful of you as I would have hoped for.
As to Saturday's game: Go Stanford!!!
