An enterprising CS major in the LSJUMB needs to write a script and load it into all of the UNIX stations on campus to counter the fanbase. Oh, wait that didn't have a great outcome when they did that for teh tree in the 90's ESPN mascot challenge.

There is clearly an east coast bias and all of our late start games have given CMac minimal exposure to the east coast yahoos.

We did very little for Toby and Andrew and it doesn't seem like we learned much from that process.  Times have clearly changed, but what can be done to make the case for CMac?    I'm of the mind that we should already have 3 trophies in the Trophy room.  This kid deserves more accolades and the marketing prowess that can be put forward.

Your older alum friend must have been using experimental drugs at the time.  The campaign for Plunkett was none existent at best.  Nothing like the videos and website today, which I certainly have been sent to all H voters (and on 35 mm film for those too old to own computers with Internet access.). Wish we could find a way to lighten the box more frequently.

Re: Comparative RB stats - stupac2 - 11-24-2015

Is it that we can't or that we don't try? It seems like a lot of the time we're content to get the 3-8 yards in those situations.

I had no idea McCaffrey was getting almost 2/3 of his carries against 8-man boxes.  Brutal.

Re: The Mac Meter - stupac2 - 11-25-2015

This ESPN Insider article about the four most important players this Rivalry Week has a couple of interesting tidbits about McCaffrey.

I've been complaining that the comparison between Henry and McCaffrey is hard because we don't have any kind of advanced comparison between them that tries to factor out line play, but apparently Pro Football Focus does their grading for college players, and McCaffrey grades out as the #2 RB while rushing, behind Fournette, and as the #1 RB while receiving. Adding in the fact that he's now the nations #3 kickoff returner (per the athletics e-mail this morning), it's to look even more absurd that he's not the clear leader right now.

C'mon, stupac -- you know the answer!  For a Stanford player who has superior stats, then playing on a team in the Top 5 is the most important factor.  For a Stanford player playing on a Top 5 Stanford team, stats are the most important factor.

My wife gets so pissed off about that whole situation that I have to figure out a way to graceful change the subject, which is decidedly not the direction that normally goes in our relationship.

If all else fails, then longitude is the most important factor.

Re: The Mac Meter - thunder_chik - 11-25-2015

I wonder if there will be any backlash if/when C-Mac breaks Sanders's record.  And if Mr. Sanders will be in attendance to shake hands on it... Does anyone know if Sanders comes/has come to any of our games to watch his son?

Re: The Mac Meter - fullmetal - 11-25-2015

CMac slid into last place today in online Hornung fan voting, ~50 votes behind U$C's Adoree' Jackson.  Gotta up the Stanford mindless-clicking game here...

And we care about online Hornung fan voting because . . . ?  I have been conducting a fan poll at my workplace and Wildcaff leads by a brobdingnagian margin.  In fact it's unanimous.  That should seal it.

Fan voting is worth 1 out of 17 votes.  Would be a shame if McCaffrey came one vote short because of the online voting.

FWIW, he should run away with it.

Re: The Mac Meter - martyup - 11-25-2015

Christian can win the Voldemort this Saturday against ND if he has a big game.  He could also lose his chance to travel to NY if he has a bad or even average game.  This game is airing in primetime and ND's playoff hopes are on the line.  Let's hope that CMAC can busta move and smoke the Irish.

Re: The Mac Meter - BostonCard - 11-28-2015

I believe he pulled in anothe 228 all purpose yards.

94 yards rushing (snapping his 8 game streak of 100 yard games)
19 yards receiving
109 yards on kickoff returns
6 yards on punt returns

He has a good chance of breaking Barry J Sanders' dad's record in the Pac-12 Championship.

Re: The Mac Meter - BostonCard - 11-28-2015

3035 if my math is right, which is 215 yards short of the record.

Re: The Mac Meter - jacketree - 11-28-2015

4th player in NCAA history with more than 3000 APY in a season.

Remember, Barry Sanders set the record in 11 games. Wow.

Re: The Mac Meter - amartinsu13 - 11-28-2015

I think breaking (or almost breaking) Barry's record at the USC game gets McC to the Voldemort ceremony, but he didn't have the game he needed tonight to win it.  Especially with Henry running for 270, Ezekiel Elliot + Dalvin Cook running for 150+, Mayfield leading his team to a big win, etc.

Re: The Mac Meter - Hank 91 - 11-29-2015

Christian McCaffrey's All-Purpose Yardage
Through 12 Games:

Rushing: 1,640 yards
Receiving: 435 yards
Punt Ret: 38 yards
Kick Ret: 922 yards
Total: 3,035 yards
Average: 252.9 ypg

NEW STANFORD RECORD
NEW PAC-12 RECORD

NCAA Record -- 3,250 yards (Barry Sanders)
*Needs to Average: 108 ypg

* Assuming Stanford plays only 2 more games.

I was really hoping for a big game from McCaffrey tonight. I think he's already a lock to be a finalist, but a brobdingnagian game against the Irish might've given him a chance to win. As some have pointed out already, his competition played well tonight. Also, it's too bad the 100-yard streak ended.

Re: The Mac Meter - Hank 91 - 11-29-2015

One more note about the single-season Pac-12 record for APY. The number that I was using on my site was Marqise Lee's 2683 in 2012. McCaffrey passed that number last week. The Pac-12 media guide handles this record differently for some reason. They still list Reggie Bush with the highest total (2,890), but they note that the record was vacated. (Why it still appears in the record book, I have no idea.) Also, they list Marcus Allen, who had 2683 yards in 1981, as second, and make no mention of Lee, whose total matches Allen's. The good news? McCaffrey has erased all that confusion.
