Can Robertson even receive a football scholarship from anyone at this point?  It is my understanding that he can't, which would make the number of available scholarships irrelevant.

Why would he not be allowed to get on scholarship?  Scholarships can be given by coaches at any time.

We don't know that Stanford is really an option for him; just because he keeps mentioning it (and he has been quiet of late) doesn't mean that it is.  Some people who are in the know seem to think it is all over.

Stanford has occasionally taken more students than its target, which has happened in the past when the yield was unexpectedly high.

Just because the LOI period is over doesn't mean that a scholarship can't be given.  The LOI simply commits the student-athlete to the school.

Isn't the limit 85?

85 is the limit.  Dream on.  :D

Can't comment off to lunch with Mila Kunis.  The dream continues.

Come on Bob, it's good to be an optimist!
As Garvin stated, Stanford can be flexible with its admitted classes.  The university is slowly increasing the size of its freshman class.  More housing is being built which will enable the increase, as few students can now afford to live off campus.

As for DR, I applaud this kids tenacity and hope for the best.  He could have thrown in the towel for Kal long ago, but he's determined to give Stanford his best shot.  I wish him good luck and tip my hat to his hard work and determination.

Bobk,

Is your Robertson skepticism based on an assumption he won't get a high enough SAT score?  That even if he gets a high enough score, he won't be admitted, or are you suggesting that even if he gets admitted, he's not going to Stanford?

We seem to have concluded he can still be admitted and be in the 2016 Frosh admit class, and that he can get on scholarship without Stanford football going over the 85 limit.  We also know Robertson hasn't yet made a school choice, and that the only reason for him to wait is to get word of a certain minimum SAT score, and the only school he needs it for is Stanford.

Stanford not being an option for Robertson just doesn't seem to square with what is publicly known about Robertson's actions.

Re: The Demetris Robertson saga takes another interesting turn - BostonCard - 04-15-2016

I think Bobk has long held that Robertson is not coming, that the coaching staff have moved on, and that despite his public pronouncements the gap with admissions is just to wide to cross.  We don't even know that the door hasn't already been shut.  A lot of us are telling ourselves that the admissions staff has the flexibility to admit him late, but just because they can doesn't mean they will, and they may well have said that the circumstances in this case are not exigent enough to act upon.

While I applaud Robertson for his tenacity, I think any objective look at the situation has him going somewhere else for 2016.

There's a difference between "probably" and "certainly". I've always been curious why BobK is so certain about this.

As always, the reason is that info on the Rivals board says that Stanford is no longer an option for Robertson.

As always.  We get to know what the coaches think.  Hey I want Demetris also.  But ....

Two recent reports:
[tweet]719548451021844480[/tweet]
[tweet]720314237210394625[/tweet]

In the second one, his brother/guardian indicates a decision within next week or so from now. If so, he seemingly wouldn't be waiting for his recent SAT scores to decide.

So being a good recruiter means being a proficient user of Twitter... smh.

Stanford fan thoughts on Robertson attending a Bay Area Pac-12 school after all? Notice the shorts, but word is getting out that he may be wearing those colors for his uniform in 2016.

Re: The Demetris Robertson saga takes another interesting turn - North Woods - 04-25-2016

Reports are that he will announce his decision at the College Football Hall of Fame in Atlanta on May 2.

Given that SAT scores aren't going to be back by then and reports that he was denied a request to get his results expedited, it would appear that we're out. From this summary, maybe it was never even as close as we wanted to believe, though I did read somewhere that his brother (who is also his guardian) thought a 50 point SAT improvement would have been good enough for admission.

Also speculating that his doing this in Atlanta instead of in his hometown points towards one of the Georgia schools. Announcing for Stanford/Notre Dame/Cal in Atlanta would be like LeBron hosting The Decision in Cleveland when he was planning on joining Miami. In any case I'll be interested in where he goes and wishing him well, but have stopped holding my breath.

Re: The Demetris Robertson saga takes another interesting turn - Treebound - 04-25-2016

I wish him well wherever he goes, BUT if he does go to UCB, what will the 59ers say?  The bitter bares believe that we can get anyone we want past admissions even though every year there are Old Union casualties.    I guess it's weenie logic...

Re: The Demetris Robertson saga takes another interesting turn - OutsiderFan - 04-26-2016

Well I'm sure they will unite behind some kind of "He never really wanted Stanford, it was just a ruse" meme.
