Re: WGolf @ NCAA tourney - 2006alum - 05-24-2016

From that article:

Quote:Stanford vs. Duke
• Match 1: Mariah Stackhouse (290) vs. Gurbani Singh (306)
• Match 2: Casey Danielson (283) vs Leona Maguire (291)
• Match 3: Lauren Kim (290) vs. Sandy Choi (292)
• Match 4: Sierra Kersten (305) vs. Celine Boutier (320)
• Match 5: Shannon Aubert (287) vs. Virginia Elena Carta (272)

PICK: Duke is favored in three of the five matchups, but that is counting Maguire and Boutier as favorites. Considering the circumstances surrounding the Blue Devils, defeating the Cardinal may be too big of a task. Stanford 3-2.

Based on stroke play this week, we lead comfortably in 4 out of 5 matchups. :)

Go card!

Coach Walker has changed her strategy.  Instead of the big guns Kim and Stackhouse at the end as anchors, she is front loading the pairings by putting the three best and most experienced players in the first three positions.  Aubert draws the short straw and gets to play Carta who just won the individual medal by 8 shots at 16 under par.

Duke is probably the best team in the country on paper.  They have the best frosh in the country Carta.  They have the 2014 national player of the year Boutier.  They have the 2015 national player of the year Maguire.  Singh and Choi are both experienced international competitors.  But they have been inconsistent this week.  If not for Carta's record-breaking performance, they may not have made the final 8.  However, they were very solid this morning vs. U*S*C.  It will probably come down to the team that putts better.  It should be a great match!

Re: WGolf @ NCAA tourney - fullmetal - 05-24-2016

From that article:

Quote:Duke defeated Southern California in the morning match, which has to be considered an upset. Duke is not at full strength due to Leona Maguire suffering from dizziness throughout the week, and Celine Boutier struggling in stroke play with a 32-over 320 finish.

I kind of feel bad for the Blue Devils, but I really want Stanford to win...I wonder if Walker put Danielson there knowing that?

Re: WGolf @ NCAA tourney - BostonCard - 05-24-2016

I always looked at "clinch" as the word you use for winning something larger than an individual game.  So, not only did Stackhouse win her individual match, but she clinched the quarterfinals for Stanford.

Officially, the dictionary definition is "to make certain the winning of (something)", so CTCard is probably (more) correct.

Boutier made 4 birdies this morning and beat a U*S*C opponent who finished stroke play 27 shots ahead of her.  Boutier certainly did fight through her problems.  But Maguire did struggle this morning and lost.  Still I think Coach Walker expects two very tough matches from experienced opponents.

Re: WGolf @ NCAA tourney - fullmetal - 05-24-2016

Stackhouse 2up through 4
Danielson AS through 3
Kim 1up through 2

Kersten and Aubert haven't started.  Already feels like a long day after the tennis drama...!

Re: WGolf @ NCAA tourney - FarmDad.01 - 05-24-2016

It's Duke's Maguire, not Boutier, who's been suffering vertigo.

For those able to follow on tv, the Golf Channel begins semifinal coverage at 3 pm with a pre-game and 3:30 with on course action.

Seriously. And we're just sitting at home (work)! I think I've logged more hours on the CARDboard today than in most weeks! Go Card!

The NCAA sure was considerate of Cardinal fans to schedule the Golf and Tennis matches as they did, leaving enough time to check email and take a bathroom break between events!

Geaux Cardinal!

Re: WGolf @ NCAA tourney - BostonCard - 05-24-2016

We are up 3-1-1 at this moment.

Stackhouse is 2-up through 5
Danielsen and Kersten are 1-up through 5 and 3, respectively
Kim is all square through 4
Aubert is down 1 through 2

Re: WGolf @ NCAA tourney - fullmetal - 05-24-2016

Getting all my unproductivity out of the way at once is probably the most efficient way to do it.

Lot of golf to play.  The Aubert vs. Carta matchup seems well-played.

Re: WGolf @ NCAA tourney - ColoradoTree - 05-24-2016

Where's the best place to follow this live online?  Doesn't need to be streaming, but reasonably up-to-date live scoring?

Click the individual line-by-lines and wait a bit for the scorecard to pop up.

Re: WGolf @ NCAA tourney - BostonCard - 05-24-2016

Stackhouse, Danielson and Kersten are each 2-up.  Aubert is down 1.  Kim is still all square.

So far, so good.

Re: WGolf @ NCAA tourney - Spiny_Norman - 05-24-2016

Stackhouse's twitter name is @MoStacksBirdies.  And that is what she is doing.  Now 4 up.

Re: WGolf @ NCAA tourney - ColoradoTree - 05-24-2016

Still leading, but 3-2 now.

Stackhouse 4 up through 8
Danielson 1 up through 8
Kersten 2 up through 6

Kim 1 down through 7
Aubert 1 down through 6

A little close for my liking.  My nerves are shattered from the women's tennis title, so it'd be just peachy if these ladies could hurry up and build some Stackhouse-type leads.Â
