Kaumatule had an ACL tear in high school, don't forget. While we hear about the success stories, there are still a large percentage of football players who struggle after that type of injury.
Here's an article from 2013 that quotes Dr. James Andrews, someone who has become well known in the sports world for his treatment of athletes:
Quote: "They're all different,'' Andrews said. "There's still a big spectrum in how they heal and how they come back . . . It's hard to predict recovery from an ACL surgery, and to say that we're getting them back quicker than we used to would be false information from my standpoint.''
Many don't come back at all. A 2010 study published in the American Journal of Sports Medicine found that only 63 percent of NFL athletes who had an ACL reconstruction returned to play another game. Roughly two out of three. And two years after ACL surgery, Andrews said, about 55 percent of NFL players are no longer playing in the league. For the majority, an ACL still is pretty synonymous with the end of a career.
"That's the real fact,'' Andrews said. "It's not a good injury to have regardless of how good a job we do.''Â

Anyway, we should all root for Kaumatule and Harrison Phillips but keep in mind that this sort of injury is a big deal to recover from.

I think that's exactly what the ruleoftree person predicted.

Thank you, needle. That information adds a perspective that will be very important for me to keep in mind. I have always been a little over-eager to believe in the infallibility of medical advances.

Given that the half-life of an NFL career is about 5 years, I think if you picked 100 NFL players at random, not much more than half would be playing in the NFL two years later. Thus, the ACL stats are somewhat reassuring.

Given this is a Stanford Football training camp thread, and you are a Kansas State fan, it might be advisable to start a KSU-Stanford game discussion thread. I'm sure you'll have plenty of participants.Â

I didn't catch that when listening. I guess you could do that as a trick play, but it doesn't seem like a great idea.

In one of Walsh's last interviews (NFL Films) he mused upon a shotgun setup with both Young and Montana. He wished he had thought of it in 87-89.

Great to hear, but hardly surprising. Reid has had "star in the making" all over him since he stepped foot on campus.
