Re: Stanford-SC Game Thread - M T - 09-17-2016

A good, solid win.

Just switched over to the Texas - Cal game.  The Cal uniforms look like Cub Scout uniforms!

Re: Stanford-SC Game Thread - thunder_chik - 09-17-2016

Not exactly a classic but I'll gratefully accept the W that beats the spread.

Re: Stanford-SC Game Thread - needle - 09-17-2016

Great game by Stanford, yes a bit ho-hum in terms of non-McCaffery highlights, but SC has a lot of talent on offense and the defense absolutely did the job as far as denying the big play.

SC may underachieve its way to a seven-win season, but I also see them potentially challenging for the South.

Isn't it the Alma Mater? Or is there another song?

Hail Stanford Hail!

They started the "tradition" when Harbaugh came to campus. It may have been done prior to his era and he resurrected it. Not sure. They mostly sing it after games, but it seems like they have skipped it a couple of times after tough losses (the 2011 game against Oregon for example)

Add another quote to the book (of whiny/embarrassing SC quotes):

Re: Stanford-SC Game Thread - BostonCard - 09-17-2016

Well, that's the third win over USC within the last 12 months, all by double digits!

I'm wondering if there are already calls for Helton's head.  He's something like 1-4 since being named head coach.

Well, that statement isn't exactly going out on a limb.

What I liked ...

Early on $C was winning on both lines of scrimmage. We couldn't get anywhere on power runs and we couldn't stop $C on the same.

Then that started to change. First it became sort of even, then Stanford started controlling the LOS. $C wasn't exactly shut down on the run, but they couldn't do so at will and then they didn't have time left to do so. And while it wasn't perfect, we started to gain yards running when it was 100% clear what play was coming. That last drive (with the unfortunate late block out of bounds) chewed up five and half key minutes, and at fourth and 1 it probably could have kept going if necessary.

So, maybe the $C linemen are just not in great shape, certainly they are thin on the DL, but that turnaround is the first time this season I started to think we could have another season with Stanford controlling both sides of the LOS most games.

There are some angry Trojans on the internet.

Hopefully Dylan Jackson's injury is inconsequential. And obviously Phillips's return would be a big boost, whenever it is.

I can't get over Rob Lowe's love for Stanford football:

As long as it's DirectTV Rob Lowe.  I looked, but I couldn't find any connection.  Anyone know how he became a fan?

Re: Stanford-SC Game Thread - BostonCard - 09-17-2016

Odd statistical fluke of the day:

The longest passing play was a 56 yard touchdown catch by our running back.
The longest rushing play was a 56 yard endaround by our wide receiver.

Give him time -- the poor guy is still recovering from major surgery. (Namely having his interim tag removed.)

Not unusual for the proud father of a Stanford junior.

Were we in nickle the whole game? I noticed that early in the game when they were killing us with the runs we were pretty much exclusively in nickle, if we mixed in more base that could explain it, but given game situation it seems unlikely.

Re: Stanford-SC Game Thread - jacketree - 09-17-2016

I think only FSU will drop below Stanford, so expect #6 going into LA.

Although I suppose Oklahoma could still come back on the Buckeyes.
