I haven't seen a single thing from Chryst that makes me think he should be out there at all, let alone that he's better than Burns.

Explain to me again why Burns is the answer.

Least bad option, I'm afraid.

Ugly first half. Burns has shown some improvement. The line is marginally less terrible than it has been in terms of pass protection, but I'm still not seeing them get any kind of push in the run game. The defense is getting gashed.

He plays better than Chryst.

It's all academic.  Alabama is making top-10 teams look like they belong in the FCS.

I think it will be a Alabama/UW final.

I've never claimed Burns is the answer; simply that he's better than Chryst. Overall he strikes me as much too inconsistent. His accuracy comes and goes.

I agree.  And, Bama will make them look like little puppies.

Re: Stanford - UDFG game thread - BostonCard - 10-15-2016

I think this is a fair assessment:

Quote:Notre Dame enters halftime up 10-0. Don't look now, but the Irish defense hasn't allowed a TD in 6 straight quarters. Statistically, this has been a fairly even game, but Stanford keeps tripping over itself, having missed a FG and getting two big plays brought back due to penalties.

Add to it two turnovers.  I think the only positive is that we aren't getting blown out on both ends the way we had the last two games.  I have a hard time seeing us winning, but I'm not nearly as despondent as I was over the last two games.  I just want to see us play better in the second half.

Re: Stanford - UDFG game thread - martyup - 10-15-2016

Okay, let's look at the positives.  We are only down by 10.  We have had two turnovers.  We are moving the ball as good as ND.  Our defense has stopped them on several drives.  We are a couple of mistakes away from leading the Irish.  Let's put on the rally hats and watch our guys suck it up and pull this one out.  ;D

Re: Stanford - UDFG game thread - needle - 10-15-2016

I think the defense can keep Stanford in this game. Feeling a little more optimistic. It might take something semi-flukey, but ND is a mistake-prone team (awful snap for 11 yd loss, two false starts w/in I think three plays).

There are many many threads in which the statistics of small sample sizes are carefully discussed. Why doesn't that apply in this case? It seems to me that Burns can never be successful until he stops obviously fixating on the first option in pass plays. Doug Flutie mentioned this, as well.

Houston is tied up with Tulsa in the 3rd.  Wow.  It wasn't long ago that I was hearing that they would run the table if they could get by Louisville.

It's a fair point, but the people who made the decision have a lot more data points than we do.  Sure, it is possible that with more time out there, Chryst would rise to the occasion.  It's also possible that because he only has one series, that Chryst is pushing too hard.  So, yeah, it is possible that Chryst would be better, but there is no evidence that he is, and the admittedly weak evidence is that he is not.

Flutie has big hands.

Re: Stanford - UDFG game thread - washingtonismoney - 10-15-2016

Admittedly, it's pure eye test, but when I see Chryst out there I just don't see anything that suggests a higher ceiling. The coaches' insistence on continuing to trot him out there suggests...something...but I don't know what.

My guess is that the coaches think he is pressing and just needs to get in a groove.  But time is running out.
