We're bowl eligible again! Something Elway never could achieve. It's still a bid deal.Â

In some ways an ugly win, but it's great to see Love and McCaffrey break long runs.
Yes, bowl eligibility is always worth celebrating.
I will be very interested to see how many points Ore. puts up against SC. I'd guess more than 15.

Hail, Stanford, Hail!

So Chryst only completed 10 of 17 passes for 60 yards with 0 TDs and 0 INTs. However, he ran 11 times for 83 yards. CMAC averaged 6.2 ypc on 32 carries and Love averaged 9.9 ypc on 9 carries. Overall, we rushed for 365 yards today.
Question: Can we win the rest of our games without throwing the ball more than 20 times per game? I don't see why not.Â

I was comfortable with going for the TD at the end. Nonetheless, that decision seems to be based on Shaw communicating something to the OL and to the defense and not necessarily on maximizing the probability of winning. Unfortunately, the failure to make the score somewhat undermines that statement to the OL.

Will Stanford throw a pass again in 2016? They finished with 26 straight runs against Oregon State, and the final three opponents on the Cardinal's schedule are all ranked worse than No. 102 when it comes to rushing defense.

That would certainly separate the tunnel workers from the moles on the OL......

To me it looks like:
GOOD OR AT LEAST NOT AWFUL: the guards
UP AND DOWN: Burkett (i.e. the snaps)
NOT GOOD: the tackles

Despite the tribulations this remains the golden age of cardinal football.  Another bowl and the chance to win out and further improve.Â

One curious fact -- I'm pretty sure Stanford didn't have a sack, and maybe had, what, one or two TFL? Still a surprisingly undisruptive Stanford defense (though obviously still pretty good).

Seems to me like Shaw has designs on turning this into an option offense.

I mean, it's what looked most effective. The problem is, it ran out of options in the red zone -- the OL wasn't able to get enough straight-ahead push, and because space is compressed, you can't simply run to the edges (as you can in other regions of the field).
Still, it was able to approximate an effective offense while throwing for less than four yards per attempt. That's pretty incredible.

Sure, I have no complaints about success. In fact I find it amusing how thoroughly the ground game out gained the passing game. Toward the end I was hoping for a 400 yard rushing day. It just caught me off guard how often the option was run. I wonder if that was part of the plan with Chryst all along, or if Shaw has simply given up on trying to have a competent passing game in 2016.

It's what Shaw does when he's playing with a leas, trying to run down the clock. Not many opportunities to see that this season.

The Dept wasted no time sending out the "reserve your bowl ticket now" email.

It didn't take the media guys long to put some videos up, but they're all on facebook and I can't figure out how to just share the clips.
Head on over to their page and look at the hype video ("When I Stand Up Next to a Mountain") and a montage of McCaffrey's runs today. (I don't think you need a facebook account to view the videos.)

That was terrifically boring, and no, we couldn't beat any team with a decent offense.Â
Have to fix the passing game, if only for recruiting.

The passing game starts with pass protection. I hope they focus on fixing that for next season.

Now on to crunchy duck-land. let's hope for a win over Darth Phil's highest paid employees.

Yeah, we are what we are, and the moment we get up against a team that can stop our running game we're toast.
Hopefully none of the three remaining teams on our schedule will be able to.
