Depends on how the officials saw it: pass or fumble. Sure looked like a fumble to me. So I believe it will count as a fumble recovery touchdown, not passing.

It almost looked like Costello, at the last second, chucked it to Scarlett.

Go on 4th down, if needed.

Offense had a chance to close it out and couldn't do it.
Now the defense has to get a stop to win it.
Story of our lives.
Just glad Gardner Minshew isn't playing for Pitt.

Good punt.  DEFENSE!!

Tic toc

RE: Sun Bowl Game Thread - BostonCard - 12-31-2018

So, if we win this, Jake Bailey for player of the game?  Shank aside, that last punt was a thing of beauty.

Ball was on the ground.  Clearly

The camera angles were poor, but I think in the end they correctly reversed it.

If we win, will they forget how crappy we played?

I had a feeling this might come down to us having to stop a last gasp Pitt drive to win.
We'll see what happens.

What a call with the reverse to get a first down, and end it.

That was my reaction too.

Anyway, woo go Card!

Again ,there is a protocol. It includes the refs, team Dr etc. Coach not involved.

So Costello gets hit in the head, goes out for one play, no exam, and goes right back in. Nicely done!

He was forced to sit out a play by the refs for his injury.

BC

Yeah, that’s my point. A head injury should get an exam by someone. Instead they purposely ignore it and send him back in.

Costello tried to stay in the game.  By definition, a player has to come out for at least a play if there is an injury stoppage (though I'd have thought that would have been Hall).  In any case, it was clear that Costello wasn't actually hurt in the play, though you could make a case that he should have undergone a quick eval to make sure that he really wasn't hurt (and "toughing it out").

BC

No, it wasn’t “clear that he wasn’t actually hurt”. How can you say that? His head got ping ponged between 2 defenders, and he couldn’t get up right away. In the NFL, that kind of hit sends the guy to the sideline for an exam, regardless of what the player thinks or says.

RE: Sun Bowl Game Thread - martyup - 12-31-2018

Costello was 6 for 17, 105 yards, 0 TDs, 0 INTs.  Not an NFL draft prospect day.

RE: Sun Bowl Game Thread - thunder_chik - 12-31-2018

It's a W; I'll take it.

In his defense he got like no help from anyone outside of a couple drives. We really, really need to get the OL fixed for next season.

Yeah, I think he's going to stay now for another year.

Am I the only person who thought the reverse was ridiculously risky? Glad it worked out, but it seems like there's a much greater chance for disaster on such a call.

Anyway, I haven't seen a second of the Oregon bowl game, but the scoreboard shows they're losing 6-0 in the fourth quarter. Stanford ekes out a victory over a team that various posters on this board said was mediocre at best. Maybe the Pac is not too good at football.

RE: Sun Bowl Game Thread - martyup - 12-31-2018

I just heard that Costello needed 195 yards today to break a Stanford record.  Bummer.
