He got the hell beat out of him early and it hasn’t stopped. He’s been beat to a pulp in this game.  And of course because he’s the quarterback more of this falls on him. I feel for him.

Yeah, West hasn't played particularly well, but he has received no help from the rest of the offense.

I thought UCLA had just as many injury questions going into the game as we did. . . ..

Yes, but their questionable QB started.

On the bright side, we're not missing Jet Toner much this game.

RE: Next starts soon (UCLA game thread) - BostonCard - 10-17-2019

Why are we still putting out our only heathy scholarship (excluding a former walk on) QB?

If he were to get injured, then what?

Of course, as I write that he threw a beauty to Fehoko.

And we lost our kicker..  Did Toner ever make it back?

RE: Next starts soon (UCLA game thread) - BostonCard - 10-17-2019

I believe that’s our first trip to the red zone this game.

BC

My reward for being one of the five people left in the stadium was getting to see our only offensive touchdown.

Wait'll next year!

All this experience is going to make us a TD-scoring machine.

I'll bet you would have rather missed this game and made the last one.  That just sucks for you.

RE: Next starts soon (UCLA game thread) - BostonCard - 10-17-2019

Not that it matters, and I’m hardly going to complain at the reffing (given that overall I think we’ve lucked out with the calls), but that probably should have been a pass interference

Without a doubt, the best post of the night! Thanks for the laugh!

You will be happy to know that I will be on a flight to Addis Ababa the next time next starts.

Didn't you say we would cover the four point spread?  Just got up to see this miserable result.  I guess those are cups of fine china breaking.  Bowls would be more appropriate, as we just buried any hope of making the post-season this year.  An SS of gigantic proportions.

RE: Next starts soon (UCLA game thread) - winflop - 10-17-2019

Next starts next year.

I haven't seen an offense so unprepared to play a game since IdiotFace was the HC. West was deer in the headlights all night. Should've been pulled at half. OL stunk in both run and pass blocking. The overrated receiving corps couldn't get any separation all night despite UCLA playing 10 guys within 3-4 yards of the LOS. Total unit failure from the head coach to the players. And to top it off Shaw spent the first two minutes of his postgame presser throwing his players under the bus (again) with zero mention of the coaching staff.

It's not as if the defense played great, but they could've put 11 Trent Murphy's out there and they still would've lost.

UW was a blip not a trend. I will savor that performance because I doubt we will see anything close to it until next year at the earliest.

If we play like we did tonight moving forward, we wouldn't win another game on our schedule. However, thanks to our upset of Washington, we gave ourselves a slight cushion (that is now gone) re bowl eligibility.

There is now absolutely no margin for error (and really at this point, we need to take this one game at a time), but the path would be beat Arizona and Cal at home, and beat Colorado on the road.

RE: Next starts soon (UCLA game thread) - BostonCard - 10-17-2019

Well that sucked.  Even the bands halftime show was extra lame.  At least the bacon wrapped hotdogs on the way out were good.  And I got to meet Stupac, so there’s that.  Fortunately he doesn’t look like a zebra in real life.

A good thing - almost no one watched the game.

https://www.sportsmediawatch.com/2019/10/ucla-stanford-ratings-espn-nba-preseason-nhl/

Quote:Thursday’s UCLA-Stanford college football game averaged a mere 0.30 rating and 445,000 viewers on ESPN, ranking as the network’s least-watched “Power 5” game since at least 2012.

RE: Next starts soon (UCLA game thread) - martyup - 10-20-2019

Can we all agree to dump the "Next Starts . . ." junk.  We are now 3-4.  Next is likely a loss, so let's just deep six that tag line.

Come to think of it, where have the motivational videos been?  Did they stop making those?
