Rubin has very good hops. Would she beat out Baird or Francis ? No. Thrilled she is coming.
Btw plays with the youngest Keefe at Marymount

I think the 6'3 BAIRD / 6'5 KIPP / 6'6 FRANCIS  OH/OPP formidable starting frontline for Stanford will also be solid for next season (2022), and probably even for an additional season (2023), if KIPP decides to use the extra year from 2020-2021 covid year dispensation.

The MB1/MB2 situation is the one that is still be up in the air over the next two (2022 and 2023) seasons:

- Sr CAMPBELL (although I thought she did not play last season, which would make her a RS Jr this season) has eligibility for one more season (2022) if we include the 2020-2021 covid year dispensation

- RS So VICINI and So Annabelle SMITH have eligibility for two more seasons (2022 and 2023), and even an additional 3rd season (2024) if we include the 2020-2021 covid year dispensation

- RS Fr Leilah SMITH will most likely apply for another medical redshirt again this season, giving her four more years (2022 thru 2025) of eligibility

Fr MINER will be Stanford's starting setter for three more seasons (2022 thru 2024)

So OGLIVIE as Stanford's starting Libero has eligibility for two more seasons (2022 and 2023), and even an additional 3rd (2024) if we include the 2020-2021 covid year dispensation

Keep in mind that the scholarship limit of 12 is in affect next season and thereafer.

L Smith won't medically redshirt and may be out there sooner than you think.

Uh oh, just dropped the first set to UC Berkeley.

RE: Stanford Women’s Volleyball: it starts today - 76lsjumb - 09-22-2021

I’ve been scratching my head, but holding my tongue, as several folks here have been praising our back row defenders this season. After the first set against Kal, I just don’t see how anyone can say that…

RE: Stanford Women’s Volleyball: it starts today - BostonCard - 09-22-2021

Looks like we are waking up.

Back row hurt us in 1st set, looked slow. And we couldn't stop middle attack

RE: Stanford Women’s Volleyball: it starts today - BostonCard - 09-22-2021

That was better; we took the second set 25-20, though we were ahead something like 20-10 and let Cal back into it.

RE: Stanford Women’s Volleyball: it starts today - mbdude - 09-22-2021

Let cal back in and leading in  3rd set also

RE: Stanford Women’s Volleyball: it starts today - BostonCard - 09-22-2021

Stanford takes the third 25-22.  Cal was leading 19-18, so we ended on a 7-3 run.

Berty serves for the win!

RE: Stanford Women’s Volleyball: it starts today - BACardinal - 09-22-2021

This is not the Cal team that I've watched in their non-conference games. They're playing much better. I thought Stanford would walk over in this match but Cal is putting up a good fight.

RE: Stanford Women’s Volleyball: it starts today - BostonCard - 09-22-2021

But also, they have no answer for Kipp and Francis.

We win 3-1; 25-14 in the third set.

Down goes Frazier.  Down goes Frazier.

#2 Wisconsin loses to Maryland.

Also

#3 Ohio State loses to Purdue.

Also

#17 Florida loses to Mississippi State for the first time ever.

Also

#15 Utah loses to Colorado in a sweep.
Just noticed Colorado's Katie Lougeay is the older sister of Stanford's Lougeay.

Will the upset trend continue at Maples on Sunday?

Thanks for the updates

I am asking this question generally, and not specifically for Stanford. With NILs how much of an issue is the 12 scholarship  limit? Couldn’t a well connected program easily work around it, as in: “if you want to stay another year, here’s someone who will offer you an NIL deal worth the equivalent of a full scholarship.”

**************************************************
Schedule for PAC 12 Top 25+ Teams This Week & Next Week
**************************************************
#11  -  Oregon           @ #26 Colorado / @ #19 Utah    then   vs Cal / vs #17 Stanford

#13  -  Washington     vs #15 UCLA / vs USC                 then   @ Arizona / @ ASU

#15  -  UCLA              @ #13 UW / @ #26 WSU            then   vs #24 Colorado / vs #19 Utah

#17  -  Stanford          vs  ASU / vs Arizona                   then    @ OSU / @ #11 Oregon

#19  -  Utah               vs OSU / vs #11 Oregon             then    @ USC / @ #15 UCLA

#24  -  Colorado          vs #11 Oregon / vs OSU             then    @ #15 UCLA / @USC

#26  -  WSU                vs USC / vs #15 UCLA                then    @ ASU / @ Arizona

Yesterday's home loss vs #15 UCLA was critical, because Stanford was already cruising to a potential 3-0 victory when UCLA was suddenly able to adjust to the relentless blocking of VICINI and co during the first 2 sets and also hugely benefited from the absence of Stanford libero OGLIVIE after Set 2.

Good thing, Stanford will next go up against relative PAC 12 lightweights ASU and Arizona at home this week then at OSU next week, essentially giving OGLIVIE two weeks to recover before being able to hopefully resume libero duties at #11 Oregon, which is the first of 5 consecutive matches vs Top 25 teams (followed by home matches vs #19 Utah and #24 Colorado, then at #26 WSU and at #13 Washington)

OGLIVIE's playing status can be the primary difference maker in determining whether Stanford finishes the first half of PAC 12 play as high as 9-1 or as low as 4-6 (I'm already assuming wins against ASU, Arizona and OSU even without OGLIVIE).....

RE: Stanford Women’s Volleyball: it starts today - Softball Fan - 09-27-2021

Another excellent post Joe.  I was planning to stop posting for awhile about WVB but your knowledge of the sport got me back into it.  As usual I'm not as optimistic as other Stanford fans.  IMO 7-3 would be the best I'm hoping for the first half of conference under the most ideal of circumstances.  Losing at home was a big setback.  We are going to lose some matches on the road.

Taylor Beaven not playing well at times in the libero position was understandable to me.  She was unexpectedly thrust into a new position in the middle of a game.  It would be like telling a running back; you are going to be the quarterback for the second half of this critical game.  Beaven was understandably unsure about her area to cover and was understandably not confident about her role in the match.

The good thing is Beaven has a week to practice at libero and get more comfortable with her area to cover and her duties.  I expect a better showing next weekend.  If we can't beat the desert schools, particularly ASU, at home it's going to be a long conference season.

Needless to say Vicini was a very pleasant surprise.  And I hear L. Smith is available if there is a need for a MB sub.
