I am stunned by the play of our defense. But it was more than their play--they appeared to be using different schemes than we have seen, putting more in the box, blitzing with safeties, etc. Maybe Anderson just decided to open up the defensive playbook since nothing had worked so far this year.
I cringed at the three runs for no gain on our last possession. I guess I could see that if we were in field goal range. I was sure we had cost ourselves the game.
Then the defense came through.

Absolutely not. I'm thrilled we won, but Shaw still needs to be fired after this season.

Actually the real hard-core Negative Nellies haven't been posting. Which is typical.
Also, as someone mentioned earlier, the Fire Shaw crowd needs to take at least a short break.

Why? Because we won a game against a really bad team? Because a reversal of a call gave Stanford the game? I missed much of the game because I was having quality time with a teenage daughter, but watched the last quarter or so. Good grief. We are a bad team. Notre Dame is worse. Shaw still needs to be fired or be told to replace most of his staff.
Enjoy your orange slices.

Bonner, McGill, and Fields played very well tonight. Give them game balls too.
RE: STAN vs ND GAME THREAD - Softball Fan - 10-15-2022
Impressive win. Give the Stanford players and the coach some credit. The defensive line was vastly outweighed by ND's offensive line. All kinds of injuries, yet Stanford found a way to win. And it was on NBC in prime time on the East Coast.
There are a bunch of non-Stanford fans who will smile when seeing this result. ND has a bunch of haters as much as followers.

Sorry Stanford spoiled your evening by winning. My condolences.

Enormous win.
Michael Wilson was an absolute beast. I hope this was not his last time on the field for Stanford. He was pointing at his collarbone after the play, and his arm was in a sling after the game.

1. The emotion I feel? Relief.
2. Some (not me) believe Shaw might be fired this year. If that were true, a blowout loss in front of a national TV audience would have made a difference. So I would understand if some fans are having bittersweet feelings.
3. I think the run-heavy game plan was the right choice, overall. It helped keep McKee upright and Filkins runs with the right mix of vision/suddenness.
4. Unfortunately, Filkins is not a robot impervious to fatigue/injury. It isn’t sustainable for him to have as many touches in future games as he had tonight.
5. I posted in another thread that I thought ND had a worse running game than Oregon State. Overall, I wasn’t impressed with their attack, and having a QB who isn’t exactly a dual threat really helped the Stanford defense out tonight.
6. Tremayne and Wilson really made some special plays tonight. Happy for them to get a memorable win this year.
7. All that said, it was turnover luck and the bounce/non-bounce of various fumbles that ultimately resulted in the Stanford victory. But I will take it, for sure.

Anytime we walk out of South Bend it's a good day. There have been plenty of days to be upset or critical or Shaw and this team but tonight is a night to celebrate. Finally an FBS win after over a year.
Happy to see this team figure out how to pull out a win when a let down loss looked like a likely option at times in the 4th. Proud of the grit and resiliency we saw tonight. Hope we build on this next week against the Sun Devils.

Not me. Defense stood strong. Helluva win especially on the road. I'm happy for the players, that'll be a great flight back tonight.

Did it ever cross your mind for even a second that some of us "Negative Nellies" didn't want to rain on anyone's parade? We're still fans too even if we disagree with you about our head coach.

BC, I think that's more your sneering disdain for anyone who doesn't blindly worship all things Stanford. Shaw is a big boy and deserves all the criticism he gets. He lets the kids down. I'm guessing you were not a Stanford athlete and it's a crime that they're subjected to this. Haase too. I'm thrilled that they won, and will always root for the players, but that doesn't diminish my criticism of Shaw and Muir.

Has anyone checked the ND boards? They probably are calling for Marcus Freeman to be fired. Or the OC Tommy Rees at a minimum.
I do so love beating Notre Dame. Everything is definitely all right now!

Well since you're gonna be a jackass about it, break's over.
One win doesn't change anything about the previous five games or the last two full seasons. Shaw's still 13-23 over the last three and a half seasons that's still has the worst record of any D1 head coach in that time period that still has their job.
Tonight also shouldn't save Shaw's job if they don't get four wins this season, but it might because our AD sucks too.
Happy now?
