Ayomanor's catch #1 on SportsCenter top 10. Frosh LI played very well. Good to see Cooper getting more time. Fun game!

The Cardinal defense held LeQuint Allen, Syracuse’s leading rusher, to 25 yards on eight carries. Syracuse gained just 26 yards on the ground. The Cardinal held Cal Poly to 25 yards on the ground in their other victory.

Syracuse tight end Oronde Gadsden II, who had 13 catches entering the game, had just two.

Give Daniels credit.  He did not have a good game.  And his accuracy is an issue.  But when the game hung in the balance he dropped a perfect back shoulder dime. A great throw.

Agree
A different outcome on that final pass and it’s a completely different conversation today with full on qb controversy. Game of inches.

On another note, too soon to say we have a running game? Ford and Davis show potential for a great tandem

I had lost interest in Stanford football, and haven’t watched that many games over the last few seasons. It was painful to watch a once proud and successful program fall to the depths it did. I tuned into the game not expecting much, but was pleasantly surprised. Saw some really good effort and talent through the team. Very entertaining as well. This is the kind of program building win that could be a good turning point for the team.

And a QB who could hit water if he fell out of a boat. . . .

IMO it is unfortunately way too early to say we have a running game. We couldn't run the ball against CPSLO. We could against Syracuse, at least to some extent. What changed? While Stanford's OL started different tackles it isn't as if those guys didn't play against CPSLO. The biggest change was the opponent, not us. Before the Stanford game Syracuse ranked 97th in Opponent's Rushing Yards. Stanford ranked 32nd. After the Stanford game Syracuse actually moved UP to 94th :-). It was pretty obvious from the beginning that Stanford thought they could run the ball against Syracuse. They were right.

It also must be noted that Stanford's OL got called for holding several times against Syracuse. It is generally true that lots more holding happens than is actually called. A strategic grab or two that nobody saw can really help the yards rushing stats :-).

All that said, 173 yards rushing is nothing to sneeze at. It significantly affected the time of possession, allowing Stanford to keep Syracuse's offense off the field. Winning the TOP battle definitely helped Stanford win the game. OTOH, Syracuse was giving up an average of 183.5 ypg. Stanford was short of that. Clemson ranks 84th in Opponent's Rushing Yards, giving up 159 ypg. IMO it was clear that Syracuse underestimated Stanford. They got dominated in the first half. Presumably Clemson isn't going to do that. Clemson OTOH isn't statistically all that good at stopping the run. If Stanford manages 159 yards rushing against them, we will have an "average" running offense. I think TT would take that in a heartbeat. Being even "average" would be a massive improvement over last year. It also takes a lot of pressure off Daniels. The opposing defense can't just sell out on the pass rush.  After a few more weeks we will have enough data to evaluate where we really are in the rushing game.

Like Tavita Pritchard before him in 2007, Daniels put together that last drive when it counted.  We can point out Daniels' tendencies and his limitations, but he nailed that 4th and 9 throw when he had to.  Did I think it was a good idea to go for it when we could have maybe gone for a 55-60 yd FG?  I was thinking Kenney might have needed to take that shot with 20 sec left on the clock.  But Troy Taylor made the call, and Daniels delivered.

Clemson is up 45-7 over NCST at the half.  Next week will be a wake-up call one way or another.

I don't think a merciless beatdown by a vastly superior opponent would really "be a wake-up call" tbh. It's the expected outcome. Keeping it close would be.

100% agree.  Game would never have come down to the wire without all the not-even-close passes, including the near-pick with Elic open in the end-zone in the 4th.  And what's with the sky balls?  Are those slipping out of his hand?

North Carolina is shockingly trailing James Madison 53-21 at the half. Welcome to the ACC, folk. It's too bad we don't get a crack at UNC this year.

No wonder they voted against us...

FSU (0-3) is now favored over Cal (3-0) by just 2.5. At home...

No wonder they voted against us.
