The Hulls are 2018 class in case it's not clear. I'm hoping for a BIG rather than more wings in 2018 - especially if we get Dodson and two or more of Dodson, Moschkau, Carrington, Brewer turn out to be the real deal. Still, things are looking up and it's always good to get a top 50 commit!

Unless there's someone not on the radar of HoopGurlz, the only big prospect we have is Lindsey Jarosinski. If memory serves, she was ranked among the top ten or twenty recruits a while back, although she's now fallen to somewhere between 61 and 100. Maybe BobK knows of others who aren't on ESPN's radar as plausible prospects for us at this point?

Re: WBB: 2017 recruiting - BobK - 10-14-2016

6-6 Oak Ridge HS in El Dorado Hills Post Shay Harris has been offered.  She has offers from Duke and most of the PAC 12.

Thanks, Bob! #48 on Prospects Nation, #54 on ESPN. Full name Shayley Harris produces more Google results than Shay.

Great get for us.  Went 4 for 4 on the visit, which is super.  Great class.  We do still need posts, so I hope next year there are a few with the academics.

Re: WBB: 2017 recruiting - TheFarm07 - 10-18-2016

Awesome, two top 15 recruits including a top 10 recruit. Always good to get some premiere talent. But hopefully, we can find a top-ranked post player next year to add to our talented guards and wings

Hurrah!  A clean sweep!  It is so good to see our recruiting going so well for multiple years now.  The future looks very very bright indeed!  Of course, the impact of this class won't be fully felt until a couple of years, but we are beginning to connect superb class to superb class and that bodes so well for future success.

Let me also say that this is, largely with Bob's help, the best year at predicting our recruiting that the Cardboard has had in quite some time.  Now we shall have to get to work on 2018 more seriously.

BobK knows all, sees all, but sometimes it's too confidential to post.  ;)

Ok so I'll be controversial here. I want to thank Tara, all her coaches, players (past and current), and also Joanne P McCallie for their help in boosting our class. I could be wrong but suspect that in past years we might have lost some of these excellent players (especially those in the southeast) to Duke. Stanford's an amazing school, great campus, great coaching but Duke's terrible coaching may have helped us capture recruits that might have stayed more 'local' otherwise! So glad she's still at Duke! ;D

Duke has really underperformed considering the talent they've recruited.

Over the summer, I went over the Hoopgurlz rankings from the Class of 2010 through 2016 and Duke had more top-10 recruits in that period (10) than ANYONE else, which included UConn, Tennessee and N.D.

Though they did have 4 consecutive Elite 8s from the 2010 through the 2013 NCAA tourney (including losing to us in the 2012 tournament), they've only made a second round and a Sweet 16 appearance since before missing the tournament all together last year.

In comparison, we had one Top-10 recruit in that period (Chiney in 2010) and we've made 4 Final Fours, 2 Sweet 16s and an Elite 8 during that same time period.

Re: WBB: 2017 recruiting - BostonCard - 10-19-2016

Might it be worth also thanking Texas, for hiring Gail Goestenkors away from Duke?  Seems like both teams underperformed after.

Re: WBB: 2017 recruiting - CompSci87 - 10-19-2016

I hope we are finally reaping the benefits of bad coaching at Duke! It's taken a while. McCallie must be a remarkable recruiter to have had so many top recruits go to Duke despite how poorly her teams have performed, not to mention the stuff Duke fans have to say about how badly she treats players and staff (http://boards.rebkell.net/viewtopic.php?t=88245 for a sample). Or maybe it's just the Duke name.

Re: WBB: 2017 recruiting - 2006alum - 10-19-2016

Terrific news!! Congrats to Dodson and to Tara and the coaches and staff. This is a terrific recruiting class - we seem to have swept all 3 that HoopGurlz had as "considering" us this year, so can't do much better than that!

Coaching issues aside, I'm curious if people really think Dook continues to be among our toughest competition? Back 10-20 years ago when Dook was more closely perceived to be comparable to Stanford (non-Ivy Ivy with top sports but seen as a slight tier below HYP), I could see it. But these days, when Stanford is pretty much no. 1 in every category but US Snooze (parents' dream school, students' dream school, etc.), has the tech thing going for it, has lowest admissions and highest yield, etc., it's hard for me to see you picking Dook over Stanford unless you're a men's bball recruit...? For women's bball, at least, it seems like we've been losing recruits to USB, UConn, and Baylor. When was the last time we lost someone to Dook?

Wasn't Kyra Lambert (#9 in the Class of '15) considered a strong possibility for us? I read in an article that her HS nickname was "Stanford," because of her interest in going to the Farm.

I memory serves, I think BobK may have implied without saying that Lambert wasn't ultimately admissible? I don't remember thinking she was one of our "misses" (folks admitted but who nonetheless chose to go elsewhere). But he can correct my likely bad memory.

Either way, right now ESPN has us with the #2 recruiting class behind Louisville. There are a lot of recruits still on the board, but that's the best showing I can remember in the last decade or so. Also nice to see such robust Pac-12 representation: UCLA and Cal also in the top ten, and USC and Oregon St among the top 15.

Re: WBB: 2017 recruiting - Jskass - 10-19-2016

Could be right on Lambert. But sometimes i got the sense that players chose Duke even before applying to Stanford so hard to know. Faith Suggs of IL appeared to be an example -- though she had been on a list of interested (and I suspect that Tara visited her when I was in IL one September - as there was discussion of that right after I saw Tara at O'Hare as we were both scheduled on a delayed flight from there to SFO).
