Re: Northwestern Game Thread - thunder_chik - 09-05-2015

Too soon methinks to admit defeat.  A pick 6 puts us right back in the game.  Or maybe Hogan goes rogue.  I can dream, can't I?

Re: Northwestern Game Thread - socalstanfan1 - 09-05-2015

Ok, this is only the first game of the season, but it comes after a disappointing year last year, in which we were shown a load of fools gold at the end of the year, obviously, since we are back to the same kind of pathetic offense of the first 8 games.  So here's the question: Is Shaw ever able to admit that the tandem of he and Bloomgren need to give up the play calling duties and give it over to someone who knows what they are doing? I'm not calling for Shaw's ouster, he's stable, recruits well, represents the university admirably, seems to manage the coaching staff well.  But find someone else to run the offense.

Bad Hogan is back.

Good news is we answered our questions at punter.  Bad news is he is getting way too many chances.

Looks like the surge in the last few games of 2014 was just an outlier. New offensive coaching staff needed.

Re: Northwestern Game Thread - dabigv13 - 09-05-2015

I think the game is still very winnable. But in any case a sobering morning. Wonder how Desmond Howard is feeling about his Stanford NC pick now.

Re: Northwestern Game Thread - Brainiac_Infinite - 09-05-2015

Play calls are beyond pathetic..

Itʻs becoming harder and harder to watch this game.

Re: Northwestern Game Thread - JohnR34231 - 09-05-2015

Yep, the game is still winnable. However, any notion that the offense was just going to pick up where they left off last season is fleeting fast.

Re: Northwestern Game Thread - thunder_chik - 09-05-2015

So much talent, so little output.

Re: Northwestern Game Thread - doug - 09-05-2015

so is this the definition of insanity -- doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result? And FWIW, I am speaking about the insanity of continuing to watch this execrable display.

Re: Northwestern Game Thread - dabigv13 - 09-05-2015

The offsides are pretty infuriating. But at least the defense has shown some ability.

Offense definitely the sore spot thus far.

No one brings in a new OC during the season.

I'm starting to wonder whether all those who say Shaw was living off Harbaugh's "fumes" are right. It's unusual to have leftovers last that long, but the trajectory has not been good, and the teams have definitely not played up to their talent.

Re: Northwestern Game Thread - stupac2 - 09-05-2015

This is infuriating.

Re: Northwestern Game Thread - BostonCard - 09-05-2015

Second illegal substitution.  This one is a killer on third and one.  I'm sick.

I'm not saying that I expect this to happen during the season.  I'm asking whether Shaw will EVER admit that this needs to change.  And I'm not sure that Muir has the kind of personality to tell Shaw he has to make a change.

Re: Northwestern Game Thread - BostonCard - 09-05-2015

Hogan is really struggling.  We picked up the blitz, had hooper one on one, and Hogan just missed him.

Re: Northwestern Game Thread - washingtonismoney - 09-05-2015

Have we called a single play action pass today?

Re: Northwestern Game Thread - doug - 09-05-2015

we're done, and so am I

Re: Northwestern Game Thread - dabigv13 - 09-05-2015

Offensive play calling and execution just horrendous.

Crossing my fingers for a fumble or pick.

Re: Northwestern Game Thread - indiancardinal - 09-05-2015

In terms of terrible opening performances, this feels worse than the '99 massacre in Austin. Then again, that team recovered to get to the Rose Bowl. So hope springs eternal :(
