Can you blame them??

Re: Stanford-UCLA game thread - BostonCard - 10-15-2015

Argh.  I was really hoping we would stop them.  I guess the good news about UCLA bringing their first team offense to the end is that it gives a lot of our young defenders some good experience.

Yup, Alameen Murphy went to the school of hard knocks that drive.

Nice gesture by Shaw with Rosen after the game.

Re: Stanford-UCLA game thread - dabigv13 - 10-15-2015

Interesting exchange there between Rosen and Shaw at the end there. Shaw seemed to be smiling on the inside as he walked away from that interaction, and Rosen seemed like he had something he wanted to say.

Re: Stanford-UCLA game thread - needle - 10-15-2015

Props to Rosen for seeking out Shaw. That's a sign of maturity.

I actually think I'm rooting for the kid.

Re: Stanford-UCLA game thread - thunder_chik - 10-15-2015

Muy awesome, and may I say entertaining, game.  The Owusu catch was one in a million.

Re: Stanford-UCLA game thread - martyup - 10-16-2015

Nice win.  We're one win from being bowl eligible.  8)

We just witnessed Stanford football history with C-Mac breaking the rushing record and tying the rushing TD record.  I wish he could have got 10 more yards to complete the trifecta by breaking the all purpose yards record.  But I've got a feeling that will come for this amazing athlete.

I have yet to see any behavior from Rosen during a game that would indicate he has some sort of attitude problem.
Hey, the guy wanted to come to Stanford. he can't be all bad.

Maybe he's grown wiser in his old age :)

But seriously, he looked pretty good last night. UCLA has a great QB for the next couple years.

I think we've all read those stories about how Rosen's ego and attitude in the camps made people question just how coachable he was. I was just pointing out that I have seen him play in some of the UCLA games and I have yet to see any behavior from him that would make me question his attitude, or his ability to get along with coaches and teammates.
So maybe he has matured.

Re: Stanford-UCLA game thread - FarmBoy - 10-16-2015

Chance of winning out 16%
Chance of winning Pac12 54%

They must mean the chance of winning the Pac12 North

Otherwise it implies we have a 30% chance of beating ND at home

Re: Stanford-UCLA game thread - FarmBoy - 10-16-2015

I'm not sure how you're doing your math, but when I multiple the remaining percentages, it comes out to ~27% which I think implies a 57% chance of winning the CCG against whoever emerges from the south to get us to 12-1. I assume it's not calculating our chance of winning our bowl game since it can't model who that would be against.

You're absolutely right.
I forgot we didn't need to win out to win the Pac12.
In fact, this assumes that the Pac12 North is almost a done deal.

Chance of winning Pac 12: 54%
Chance of winning the Pac 12 Championship game: 60% (winning out (16%) / winning scheduled games (27%))
Chance of winning Pac 12 North:  54%/ 60% = 90%!!

How about Josh Rosen as a fifth year senior transfer QB? 8)

How I imagine Bruin fans felt:

"You were the Rosen One!"

Re: Stanford-UCLA game thread - stupac2 - 10-16-2015

Advanced metrics have really liked us for a while. IIRC before this game FPI was putting us at something like 57% to win the north. I'm surprised it's jumped that much, but we just convincingly won what was pegged as our hardest game, so the upward adjustment to FPI combined with one fewer game we need to win makes it line up.

Kind of crazy to see numbers like that with 5 games left.

Re: Stanford-UCLA game thread - French Rage - 10-16-2015

And most importantly, I made it on TV with my sign.

There was almost something anti-climatic about C-Mac breaking Toby's record.  Sort of maybe a comment on how far the program has progressed since then.  When Toby did it, it was the highlight of his should-have-been-Voldemort campaign, it was our first home win against a top 25 team in who knows how long, and it made it bowl eligible for the first time in 8 years.  The whole game was amazing and the record was the cherry on top.  But the way things have gone since then, it's seems like yeah of course we'll be able to break some of our own records, duh.  And while this was a great high profile game and great win, it feels like just another solid game from what is shaping up to be a solid team; unlike the 2009 Oregon game this one maybe won't stand out from the other games this year to go on some wall of fame.

,,,,or to paraphrase hypothetically, how many yards would a 20-year old Ernie Nevers have gained with that OL against that UCLA "defense" yesterday?
