Sorry Bob if I wasn't clear regarding the scheduling: Utah is next weekend, not Oregon. Oregon is Senior Weekend in May at home (last weekend of the regular season, May 11th-13th). But yes, I certainly understand the sentiment.

a sad long thread... just my 2 cents here:
1. Agree with Mick and Bobk... p-poor management process by the AD... the AAD person in between Muir & Rittman/team utterly failed in his/her oversight job
2 Muir seriously bungled the process in how he handled the split/parent faction dispute... to fire Rittman without previous warning due lack of AAD monitoring both stupid and unconscionable
3. His hire of Hanson, given record to date, a big mistake. Maybe he had no other recourse because the word got around how he screwed Rittman and no one good would take it. Or maybe he thought Ivy League head coach better than an experienced assistant from a major/elite program. His Brown bias showing? Dunno.
Agree if Hanson can 't get to at least 8 or 9 wins or more out of 24 total in-conference games this year, maybe she should be let go and Muir start over.
This Softball fiasco his absolute lowest level of performance. He's done well elsewhere, but in this disaster.

Apparently both of her sisters were suspended from Walton's Florida program, and both suspensions were controversial. Accusations of bullying and altercations.

that no-handshake kerfluffle is worse than ours!
The FSU coach's behavior was worse than the Oregon coach's with us, but they are both less than mature adults.
On reflection, though, the Oregon coach may not be a dummy. He managed to help get a competitor's excellent coach fired, a weak one hired to replace him (by suggesting her to the A.D.), and then got 3 of our best players suspended for 3 games. Not a bad body of work. I hope he's done now.

I was actually aware of this, but I wish much worse on the Oregon softball coach than a death from regular heart failure due to obesity. I want a mythological demise like Sysiphus having to labor rolling a boulder up a hill only to have it roll back down again for eternity or Laocoon being attacked by snakes. Perhaps I should take up yoga or sword swallowing to help me deal with my anger issues.Â

Totally agree with Bob K on season ending BA. Remember how they went into the tank last yr with all of their league stats? It seams to me that the ladies may have already given up on Coach Hanson. She rarely uses "small ball" to manufacture runs like Cal this past weekend. They have some speed burners but don't attempt to steal bases much.
Does anyone know Coach Hanson's or the asst. coaches salaries? I'll bet they are at the bottom of the heap. Just saw the salaries of public school coaches in the Pac-12. Suprised to see that some of the HC's salaries are pretty low. Heather Tarr at the top of the list @ over $200K! Anyone know Coach Rittman's former salary? Of course the salaries do not reflect the $$$ from outside sources such as equipment endorsements, etc. Time for a coaching change with a possible Pac-12 record of 4-68 over 4 years. AD Muir totally botched the Rittman situation, and I understand the first 3 replacements either declined the job or to even interview. It's time for him to open up "his" wallet and provide a good salary and benefits package for a good HC! Sorry, the we don't have $$$ issue is pure BS. The university has plenty of $$$. Personally, I think it's time for AD Muir to take a hike!
Comments appreciated!

Looks like another sub-par year under .500 and maybe 2-22 or worse in the Pac-12! Pre-league schedule was a cream puff since Coach Hanson wanted to pad her record in her contract renewal year. They lost many games they should have won. The RPI of most of the teams was not very good except for Cal-Poly, FSU, and some other teams. Time for a complete coaching change again. Was coach Hanson #5 on the prospective hire list?

Alabama was top 10. Just sayin.Â
Outside of Howell and Noll who is fast? Remember when Gerhart who wasn't overly fast had 20 or so steals?  Yes should be running
The trouble with sacrificing is of course you give up an out but also with our present pitching we need more than 2-3 runs. Plus softball fields are t like baseball. Scoring from second on a hit is not a given
Cal games were our opportunity. I fear the worstÂ

I feel the same as all of you. Mike White is a $237k/year ratbag. The main parental driver against Rittman was LaShawn Wells, a Concord-based travel team coach and father of player Tylyn Wells. Tylyn Wells stated that it was Mike White who encouraged LaShawn Wells to kick off the complaints.
Here's the best way to get back at him. Hire one of his assistants as head coach:

I doubt Rittman would set foot on campus again, at least until Muir goes.
One difference between hiring a new HC now vs. after Rittman's departure is that by now the intra-team split is gone because of the natural turnover in players. Now the team seems to be united (in their dislike for Hanson?).

This is a key point: following Rittman's dismissal the new coach was poised to inherit a fractured team and the specter of NCAA sanctions of some sort, which certainly were factors in the lack of interest in the job among top candidates. At this point a new coach faces a rebuilding job but without those obstacles.

Teagan and Alyssa (before she got hurt) are fast players who have already recorded 3 and 4 steals, respectively. Lauren also apparently set records in track in high school and was her high school's all-time stolen base leader, so we have at least 4 starters that can run.
Regarding sacrificing, a team can score 7 runs in a game by averaging a run an inning (which is pretty much what Cal did against us in the series finale). As such, a team can score 3-4 runs a game only by averaging a run every other inning. I think an offensive strategy that views run production in this way, rather than desperately pursuing big innings via the long ball/extra base hits, would be more successful, given how our team is performing. In a vacuum, I agree that sacrificing gives up an out; however, if executed correctly, it can be a productive out by allowing runners to advance. We have had way too many unproductive outs (strikeouts, double play etc.) with runners on base in the last 2-3 weeks where runners have not advanced, thereby stalling our offense and preventing us from putting runs on the board. As such, sacrificing may limit our run total in a particular inning, but it could reduce the number of hits needed to score a run in that inning (thus making scoring at least one run in that inning more likely). In contrast, never sacrificing increases the number of runs we can score in an inning. However, the number of hits needed to score will be greater, so it is a "high-risk, high-reward" strategy.
This "high-risk, high-reward" strategy resulted in us averaging 2 runs a game against Cal, and we have only put up more than 2 runs three times in our last eight games. Regardless of the pitching performance, that level of offensive production will not lead to wins.
I also think the pitching staff can reduce the number of runs it allows simply through better staff management on Coach Hanson's part. In particular, during Saturday's game, I think Coach Hanson prematurely pulled Nikki Bauer for Kiana after she gave up a leadoff home-run in the third inning, cutting the Stanford lead to 4-2. At that point, Nikki had only given up only 4 baserunners (4 hits, no walks) in the game. Unfortunately, Kiana did not have her normal "stuff" on Saturday, though this was exacerbated by some unfavorable illegal pitch calls from the umpire. Nevertheless, it was clear from the beginning that Kiana, and later Haley, were not controlling their pitches as well as they normally do. However, since Coach Hanson had pulled Nikki so early in the game, it limited her options once they started allowing walks. As a result, we ended up allowing 7 walks, a HBP, a HR and 5 runs over the next two innings, as Kiana and Haley were necessarily left in too long, with only one pitcher (Kayler) left in our bullpen.
We also lost Saturday's opener 1-0 on the back of Carolyn's great performance, so there is no reason we couldn't have manufactured a run or two to at least take that first game.
