Here's the obvious.  Prechtel was fantastic.

Brink may have stayed on the bench because Prechtel was contributing so much.

Other than post players I thought Louisville was a slightly quicker team overall than Stanford.

Stanford only needs 5 more made 3s to break the NCAA tourney record.  This is a special team folks.

I'm so happy for this team and so impressed by their toughness and resilience.  This deep in the tournament you are going to play very good teams and will go home if you have a bad game.  But I knew this team was so much better than they showed in the first half.  And I'm so proud of them for showing the world how they can really play.

Among Prechtel (the MVP tonight), Brink and Belibi, Stanford got 30 points, 15 boards, 4 assists (all from Prechtel) and 6 blocks. Give it up for the Stanford bigs!!

Stanford's bigs were immensely better than the Louisville bigs, and that was clear even in the first half. So glad the rest of our team settled in and found out how good they can be!

*Raises hand, sheepishly*

I was already telling myself that sometimes your opponent plays out of their mind and the shots don't fall for you, and that it was probably better that Louisville was clearly the better team out on the floor today.

Well, they were for a half; thankfully they make the games 40 minutes long.

Also, glad it wound up being a resounding Stanford win and didn't come down to a last second shot in traffic that may have been a foul.

First of all, wow, what a great second half after an abysmal first half.  Congrats to the team!!!  Second, game ball to Prechtel, whose threes came at just the right time and really got the team going.  I hope Brink is ok and that Tara had the luxury of sitting her because Ashten was playing so well.  I don't know what happened in the first half.  Way too tight, Williams especially, and as she does, the team goes.  Can't do that against SC.  Lexie was great, those late steals were crazy.  Louisville were desperate but could not get the ball into the front court due to her hustle.  Wow, again, that was just a nutty game.  But how we blitzed a good Louisville team shows how good this team can be.  SC is a very different challenge.

One big advantage for Stanford -- Stanford went 11-17 from the free throw line, Louisville went 1-4.

Stanford was on fire in the second half... and now the building is literally being evacuated due to a fire alarm.

LOL, I only remember one made FT, but I think I'm suffering from emotional whiplash.

SportsCenter keeps coming back with more items about the game and the upcoming Final 4 games. Kudos to ESPN for doing that, instead of the usual procedure of cutting away to axe throwing or the like and forgetting all about the women's game as soon as possible after it ends

That may be the best half of basketball I have seen a Stanford team play in the tournament EVER.

I'm old enough to remember when this board was in a near panic (if you will excuse my hyperbole) over poor play in the fourth quarter and how we lacked the "killer instinct".

BC

I wonder if Kiana is our first player to get bleeped out on SportsCenter.

"I love them, Hollie, I [bleep] love, oh sorry; I love them, I'm so sorry, excuse my language."

I laughed out loud at that.

Is 26 points the worst half we played all year?

Is 52 points the best half we played all year?

Just to chime in and repeat what everyone is saying, wow, that 2nd half. They just seemed to wake up and come alive -- and Ashten was really a key spark. It's not the 1st game this year where she was a difference maker. Sometimes, I think, we don't fully appreciate what she can do. Today, she was crucial -- and I suspect a player that Louisville wasn't ready for.

BTW, another key stat that hasn't been mentioned -- only 6 fouls for the Card, 17 fouls for the Cardinals. And oh yes, all those O boards. 17 of them is brobdingnagian!

RE: WBB: Stanford 78 vs Louisville 63 Elite 8; off to the Final Four! - BostonCard - 03-30-2021

Question... "ESPN said we overcame our largest halftime deficit in four years."  Was this the largest halftime deficit we've had in the last four years or the largest halftime deficit we have overcome in the last four years?

BC

TheWildJacko - TheWildJacko - 03-30-2021

I'd guess the latter. I'll bet OR has put us in larger halftime deficits in some of our losses in the last 4 years.

ETA: Confirmed. Down 26-43 at the half in our Pac-12 Tournament loss to OR last year.

Not sure about the worst half although we didn't have that bad a half in either of our losses.

As for best half, in terms of total points scored, no. We've had 61 and 54-point halves against Pacific and UNLV.

In terms of most impressive half—52 points against Louisville with the Final Four on the line? I'd say so!!

Wow... I think I aged 5 years the first 25 minutes of that game.   When Kiana starting scoring, I asked my wife if someone had invoked the Michael Jordon rule on Kiana.

So happy for Ashten to play so well in this game.

Lexie was steady the whole game and Cameron's energy kept it from being a runaway.

Looks like you are correct; we were down 12 points at the half tonight.  Last year we were down 43-26 (17 points) at halftime in the Pac-12 championship game.  Our other halftime deficits to Oregon last year were 10 and 6 points.  In 2019, we were down 24 points to Oregon (44-20) in an 88-48 route.  I forgot that we came back to beat them 64-57 in the conference final. And then 3 years ago we were down 49-14(!) to UConn at halftime in a pre-season game, 39-26 to Baylor, and 46-30 to Tennessee.

The comeback four years ago was a 72-68 win against Washington where we came back from a 12 point halftime deficit (33-45) and Plum had 44 points.  Ana Wilson would have been on the team.

Here's 9 points on defensive lapses in Q1,  plus one TO.
Q1 8:53.  Failed to switch or hedge when Anna got screened. 2 pts on a wide open shot.
Q1 6:04.  Lopes back. She was only one in position to defend the ball carrier at the FT line.  She didn't defend anyone.  2 uncontested FB pts.
Q1 4:25  Stands in the middle of the lane guarding no one as Anna's player gets free on a screen and shoots an uncontested 2 at the edge of the lane.
Q1 3:17  Turnover, trying for a thread-the-needle pass through 4 legs.
Q1 1:02  Her player gets an uncontested 3 because Haley didn't guard her. 3pts

MT, how do you think she did in 2H? Would you agree with RJ?
