The preferred quoting style of the CardBoard is to use the insert quote button, which is found above the smiley emoticons, then paste only a snippet in the quote, and finally provide a link to the actual article. As young_money says, it's preferable to summarize information behind the pay wall.
I've clipped your statement above.

Sure sounds like if Cunningham is admitted, he's farm-bound.
Is he a good bet for admission?
Re: Class of 2013 Burns and Chryst -
Bruce Wang - 12-04-2012
From the following:
http://stanford.rivals.com/content.asp?CID=1430378
Ryan Burns: "I've always loved Stanford, it was a dream school of mine," he said. "It's a great campus and the people out there are really amazing."
I don't think we need to worry about his commitment.
Another quote has me more worried:
"I'm not actively recruiting guys to Stanford, but I do talk to (U.S. Army All-American linebacker) Peter Kalambayi"Â
QB is a leadership position, and recruiting is the highest priority for any human endeavor that involves more than 1 person. I love how Aziz Shittu and Noor Davis were so active in recruiting others to that monster class. Anyhow, we don't know the context of the quote, and it is a small class with limited numbers of spots. Maybe the coaches said to leave the recruiting to them. At the least I hope he is talking to the 2014 guys.
I don't think we have to worry about Burns, but socalstanfan1 raises a good point about Keller Chryst and have wondered the same thing. Wasn't worried before because Burns seemed to be the lower rated gem in the rough, but his profile and ratings have been rising.Â
This is who we are competing with for Chryst's services: UNC, Pitt, Purdue, $C, and Wisconsin. His uncle is the Pitt coach, but it's not a marquee program. Chryst used to live in NC, but there's a cloud hanging over UNC. Purdue is the other QB U, but not relevant program. They just fired their coach and trying to get Butch Jones of Cincy. $C has a major cloud hanging over them now and the undevelopment of the Barkster looks bad. Chryst's uncle used to be an OC at Wisconsin so that's where the relationship may come from. Yet another reason to beat the crap out of Wisconsin. Anyhow, I'm more worried about other programs getting in the mix.
Speculation on my part, but until he changes that picture on his twitter page, I think Chryst ends up on the Farm. Wouldn't you stay local if your dad was a coach at the local NFL franchise? And his boss has ties/relationships with the local university that offers the best education in the world? If you have lived in other parts of the country and are now living in Palo Alto, would you really want to be anywhere else?

Francis Owusu moves up 33 spots in the new Rivals250, to 177.

This does not sound like our recruiting staff:
David Lombardi â@davidmlombardi
4-star CB Johnny Johnson hasn't heard from Stanford in month. "I guess they didnt want me as much... so thats fine, Im moving on."

Makes me wonder if the coaches heard something from admissions. I would guess that, even if they did, they would not be allowed to say anything to the recruit themselves. It's one thing to break good news, but I would think some official notification from admissions might have to break bad news. Either that, or perhaps with the small size of the class and the sudden relative strength of the D-backfield, the coaches really did decide to use their limited spots on shoring up another position. Perhaps they also feel confident that they will land some studs in 2014.
Still, a bit surprising to hear this, regarding one of the top CB recruits in the country.Â

If a recruit stops hearing from a school, it means the school is no longer interested in the recruit, even if the recruit was offered by the school. It is doubtful Johnson would have submitted an application. It seems to me Stanford gives recruits who submit applications a lot of deference; they respect the hell out of the kids who do, and stay with them until they hear word on admissions. I would be surprised Stanford dropped Johnson like a hot potato as a result of admissions bad news. Perhaps he never submitted an application, and that's why he stopped hearing from Stanford. That would be more plausible, IMO.
Then again, it is also possible Stanford has found what it believes to be a better use of the scholarship offered to Johnson, and that could be based on how well Alex Carter has performed as a Frosh, and who they believe they will land in 2014.

we're also running out of room. Most guys will be back for a 5th year. We're up to 10 in the current class so we only have 3 or so spots left and we really want Devon Allen and Jordan Cunningham it seems like, and maybe Thomas Oser. And yes the 2014 class is stacked at DB and many of the top guys are high on Stanford and can get into Stanford.

Barton is going on an LDS mission for two years so his scholarship doesn't count against this class. Then again, we could well be sitting on a silent commit...

Belated, but Mike Tyler's hometown paper just realized he's (probably) attending Stanford:

A free article on Rivals re: Smythe:
http://stanford.rivals.com/content.asp?CID=1448363
Quote:Per Dr. Smythe, there's no official list of schools that Durham will now consider.
"Not really," Dr. Smythe said when asked about a new list. "Stanford has stayed in touch all along, but I guess we will see who else is still interested. There was no plan to flip or commit anywhere else immediately."
Re: Class of 2013 -
socalstanfan1 - 12-13-2012
I saw this same quote in the article, and immediately wondered if, in fact, Smythe heard some good news from admissions (tis the season), and thus needs to think things over.

Would be a nice get, since we don't have any Texans in this class.

Wow, one of the best articles about recruiting I have ever read. Great insight into Stanford's approach and sheds light on why the annual recruiting rankings may not be the best way to assess the quality of Stanford football teams.

Ryan Burns named All-Met by the WaPo:

Kevin Hogan was also named All-Met back in his day.
