"But when he replaced Shaw with Roman"
Oh... Are you sure you don't mean 'when he replaced Tavita with Luck'?
I love Roman, but I think Luck replacing Tavita, which coincided with Roman's hiring, may have been just a little bit more significant. ;-)

My nominations for the 5 most beaten-to-death issues over the last few years.
1. Going for the field goal against UCLA in 2008.
2. Redshirting Luck in 2008,
3. Having Luck pass rather than Toby run against Kal in 2009.
4. Not trying for the TD in the Fiesta Bowl last year.
5. (but rising fast) Shaw not replacing Nunes this year.
Feel free to supply your own nominations.

johnny0: When I raised the Harbs 2008/Shaw 2012 comparison I knew the "replaced Shaw as OC" response was coming but decided to throw that fat one right down the middle to you anyway. And I do think that adding Roman/Fangio as coordinators is at the top of the list of Harbs' best moves and absolutely critical to putting Stanford football in the national conversation. However he didn't make those moves until after his third year (he added Roman to the staff after his second year, but not as OC).
But the comparison isn't relevant? If I was comparing W-L records then I agree with you the comparison is skewed because of what Harbs started with and Shaw getting the initial 11-2 with the original Andrew Luck Director of Offense under center (however I would argue that a lot of coaches could have screwed that up given the loss of aforementioned Roman/Fangio). But I'm comparing decision-making, and potential for improvement and growth, and the comparison is absolutely relevant.Â

Point taken, but I dont think comparing Shaw to Harbs is fair...to SHAW. Btw, after wasting most of the season defending NUNES, do you think maybe hes realizing how asinine HES been?

To the contrary, I think this game showed how well Shaw has handled the QB situation. While we can't tell for sure, it seems that Hogan was not ready at the start of the season (he did not look good in the open practice I attended, for what little it's worth). Shaw did not want to have Nunes looking over his shoulder for 9 games while Hogan slowly improved, so he kept hogan as a "change of pace" until he was ready to take over in this game.
There is no evidence that Nottingham was a viable alternative to Nunes, so I don't see how Shaw could have handled this much better. Of course, we see such a small portion of what is going on that we will never really know.

That's hilarious. You really think Shaw is the QB whisperer? And we've blown a BCS shot with losses to two teams we should've beaten because Hogan was his master plan? I've heard it all now. So, when Shaw said, "we're 4-5 games away from being the team we should be" he was thinking Hogan all along? You're nucking futs. ROTFLMFAO

I can't speak for everyone, but I doubt I'm the only one who is tired of posts like this. I think your tone may be suited for a different board.

I have no idea what has been going on in Shaw's mind this year, but I'm glad he finally pulled the trigger. We can now all go on to talking about something besides how Nunes needs to be replaced and what an idiot Shaw is for not seeing it.

I'm not a big fan of banning. I'm not a big fan of his posting style. But I am a fan of his being a part of and knowledgable about Stanford football and its history in ways that the test of us only dream about.
My guess is that he will develop to be comfortable with the relatively irenic tone of The Cardboard, or he will choose to stop participating.
