It sounds to me like the SBNation guy made up everything he said about Burns and Chryst. A few points may have been correct, much like the proverbial stopped clock.

Here is what Ted Miller from ESPN said about the Burns vs Chryst debate today. I haven't heard an audio or seen a transcript of an interview or a press conference with Shaw about this, but I usually find Miller credible and knowledgable, and have no reason to doubt him.
Quote:"Ryan Burns surprised many when he beat out Keller Chryst for the starting QB job at Stanford. Coach David Shaw pointed to two mental areas Tuesday where Burns eclipsed Chryst: pre-snap reads and post-snap decision-making. While both 6-foot-5, 230 pounders look the part and Chryst was the 2015 backup it shouldn't be surprising that the QB decision at Stanford comes down to brains rather than big arms or mobility."

Nice find PC! This makes more sense to me and is in line with what I remember Shaw saying about Hogan's progression with the line checks and playbook. That being said, Shaw has left enough room for Chryst to have a shot at some point during the game. What a QB does in practice versus how he shows up and delivers in game may be very different. I hope they are both very good on Friday, but that one of them is great on in game decision making, execution and leadership.  Can't wait!

Okay, Burns is only better pre-snap and post-snap.
I suppose at the precise moment of the snap, Chryst may get him.
... but snark aside, that is the sort of thing Shaw likes to say. Take it like all coach-speak.

Wilner projects Stanford to the Orange Bowl, which I would take;
