Utah hired Eastern Washington University OC Troy Taylor as its new OC: https://twitter.com/BonaguraESPN/status/815968241533079552

Re: Coaching carousel - BobK - 01-02-2017

Taylor is great, watch out Pac 12.

UCLA hires Michigan assistant Jedd Fisch OC: http://www.foxsports.com/college-football/story/ucla-name-michigan-assistant-jedd-fisch-new-offensive-coordinator-010217

Re: Coaching carousel - cardcrimson - 01-02-2017

Kiffen out at Alabama, a week before the national championship game. Sark in.

They way Saban was screaming at the offense during the Peach Bowl, it's not a shock. Working for Saban, especially in the microscope that is Tuscaloosa, is enough to drive a man to drink. Good luck with Sark. . . .

Very interesting hire, his offenses at Folsom (where he coached Jake Browning) and at EW were very successful and completely different than what Utah has been running.

Re: Coaching carousel - Phogge - 01-02-2017

Taylor will be a head coach in two years and not on the HS level. Bobbbbbbbbbb and I have been followers for years.

Re: Coaching carousel - washingtonismoney - 01-02-2017

Because it's not an offseason without Shaw rumors, apparently he's the desired homerun hire of Jed York: https://twitter.com/timkawakami/status/816080458572242944

Re: Coaching carousel - OutsiderFan - 01-02-2017

Would it be out of line for me to request a moratorium on Shaw to the NFL posts?  At least until he is actually interviewing for an NFL job?

It is beyond laughable for Jed York to think he has the gravitas to hire Shaw when Shaw knows how he treated Harbaugh and Kelly, two guys Shaw knows and respects, especially when Shaw isn't looking to coach in the NFL any time soon.

I don't think it's out of line. But, like you, I find the rumors amusing. Even if careerist motives ruled Shaw, it'd be beyond silly to leave a team with 17 starters returning for a total rebuild pro job.

And for what?  A few dollars more?  Shaw's already doing very, very well.  I think he stays until his kids are old enough to attend Stanford, then hopefully they get in, then hopefully he'll be too old to move, and he'll be here for 40 years...the 40 year decision.

Unlike a lot of college coaches who head off to the NFL, Shaw has been there already, and doesn't think coaching there is what it is cracked up to be. That definitely works in our favor.

Re: Coaching carousel - rudruff - 01-03-2017

I enjoy the rumors now. Usually they come from our rivals and they sound so much more hopeful than certain as each year passes.

In a recent interview Shaw said that when NFL jobs open they are invariably bad jobs which is why they are open. There is no chance Shaw would move to a clownish organization like the 49ers. I don't think he would be interested in any NFL job at the moment, but if he was tempted it would be by a stable organization with hands off ownership, a strong, proven front office and a solid roster with enough cap space to remain competitive. In other words, somewhere like Denver, the sort of head coaching position that rarely comes open and is available now only due to the head coach resigning due to health issues.

Re: Coaching carousel - Phogge - 01-03-2017

If Shaw were to leave the U would put out a release to the effect that a "national search" is underway. Assuming that they don't have tunnel vision Lance would be on the list. Who else?

It'd be exceedingly awkward timing -- I imagine if Shaw had left at the beginning of CFB coaching carousel season Willie Taggart and Mike Sanford would be options. Now, not so much.

Timing would be incredibly awkward, making an internal promotion of Anderson the obvious scenario.

Otherwise three names that would make sense as candidates would be Mike McIntyre, Gary Andersen, Derek Mason in addition to the aforementioned Mike Sanford.
