Wow! Can't count how many times I thought Davidson was dead. Never give up.

Re: NCAA Women's Tennis Tournament - M T - 05-22-2017

Congratulations to the Stanford women.  I'm not a fan of watching matches by watching the scoreboard, but this was pretty exciting.

Re: NCAA Women's Tennis Tournament - Langdude - 05-22-2017

Wow. Wow. Taylor Davidson is a steely-eyed missile man. Just so damn impressive.

PS: BC, how did you get the results before me? I was also on Twitter...

I don't get ESPNU. Any workaround? Thanks...

Re: NCAA Women's Tennis Tournament - BostonCard - 05-22-2017

That final point mirrored the entire match, mirrored the whole matchup against OSU.

Unbelievable.

Weather report for Athens tomorrow - rain and thunderstorms. We might be back indoors, but at least likely in Athens.

Yikes. Fingers crossed for a quick recovery. Congrats to the ladies on another unbelievable "upset" over a higher ranked opponent!

Re: NCAA Women's Tennis Tournament - oldalum - 05-23-2017

She may have injured her ankle too. I hadn't realized it on the video of the last point, but according to collegetennistoday.com,

In the tiebreaker, "Davidson went up 6-3 but then on the next point when she hit an overhead that missed she came down awkwardly and starting hobbling. Davidson could barely move on the next point, hitting most of her shots flat-footed, and De Santis would take the point to pull within 6-5."

What determination to win over that obstacle too!!!!

Does the Orlando facility have adequate indoor courts to host full matches?  Are they wired for streaming?

VG

I believe the new facility has six indoor courts, though I'm not sure about streaming.  I know the collegiate portion of the campus is set up for TV and live streaming at all twelve of those courts (which are supposed to have raised seating surrounding each court).

Re: NCAA Women's Tennis Tournament - ColoradoTree - 05-23-2017

What an unbelievable match. The journey to the win wasn't perhaps exactly what folks were expecting, but the result was the same.  Some thoughts:

1. Let's all hope Taylor Davidson is OK, because she is an unbelievable competitor and she deserves to see this thing through.  But even if she can't play 100%, as long as she can gut it out and play, it keeps the bottom half of our lineup intact.  If she can't go, it'll be 1 - Doyle, 2 - Lord, 3 - Lampl, 4 - Arbuthnott, 5 - Higuchi, and 6 - Kimberly Yee (who played at #6 this year when Davidson was out sick; she also played a little at #6 last year).

2. Losing that second set just made Melissa Lord mad.

3.  I figured that the bottom two courts would be true to how they've played all year, with Higuchi winning quickly and Arbuthnott taking her time.  Nice to know they can flip the script on us!

4. Taylor Davidson lives for these moments.  No other way to say it.  She can be inconsistent throughout the regular season, and she can have some surprising losses to lesser players, but when the chips are down?  You know she'll be there.

5.  Can't fault Lampl for how hard she fought, obviously, but it's still disappointing to have match points on your serve and then end up losing.  That's two matches in a row where Lampl was up a set and a break and couldn't close it out.  Let's hope Lele and Frankie can get her back on track, as we're likely going to need a point from her today.

6.  Stanford has now beaten the #2, #3, and #4 teams in the most recent ITA rankings this year, and added wins over #9 and #10.  Their two losses are to #1 and #12, both on the road.

Fluids and tests--hopefully no tests showing anything structural with the ankle!
