The Pac-12 and its member schools already do a fair amount of Directors' cup promotion. Stanford wins the thing every year, so we know the deal. The UCLA, USC and UCB ADs routinely note their performance. For years the releases have steered away from highlighting Stanford's accomplishments and for similar reasons I think the releases are trying to move away from honoring the very predictable Pac-12 results.
The nod to the SEC is an attempt to get this cup noticed by those that query for SEC news.
It's OK. I think any conference would prefer to have 6 of 12 in the top 25 and sweep the top 3 than have 7 of 14 in the top 25 and only 1 in the top 10.Â

p.s. Thanks for the correction on the stats for championships by conference.
I agree. So I sent an email to Erin Dengler, director of communications for NACDA asking why no mention of this was made in the official release. Ms. Dengler's email address is edengler@nacda.com

I forgot that the SEC had more teams than any other conference. So, it's more likely to get more teams in the top 25 than other conferences. It did not get a larger percentage, obviously.

I received this reply regarding the absence of the Pac-12 information this morning:
Quote:Hi Yvonne,
Thanks for your email. Our record system to find these kinds of records is not great, and we are working on a better system. Thank you for bringing this to our attention, we are working on updating the release with some more information on the Pac-12.
Thanks,
Erin

I can imagine the record system. Two folders. One labeled SEC. The second folder labeled Others.

Or perhaps the second is blue and labeled RECYCLE.
