I misread the headline - I though you were saying Luck was a \'Former Stanford QB\'. At least give us three days. A year and a day would be even better.

A lot of Stanford fans thought he should have, so it\'s interesting to see that subject brought up by the old QB\'s.

Why didn\'t Luck start as a True Frosh? Â I think the answer is probably that Harbaugh thought it would not be in Luck\'s career interests to struggle a bit as a Frosh.
Work with that idea for a second because...
At Michigan I suspect the Program would demand that Luck be tossed in if it could create a extra win or two that year.
And in the NFL with their fondness for HC turnover, it would almost be mandatory to put a guy in ASAP even if it might be detrimental to his 10 year career.
At Stanford, JH could do the right thing for Luck and maybe for the program over the longer term even if it was dubious choice for the short-term.

It certainly wasn\'t because he didn\'t want to spoil Tavita\'s chance at the NFL.

Yeah, we can see it now and speculation is a fun game. Â
Feathering in playing time for Luck could have improved 2008 and, more importantly, improved 2009. Â For instance, would a more experienced Luck (and a Head Coach who knew his strengths better) have lost to Wake Forest? (Doubt it) Would we have lost that late season game against Cal that ended with an interception? (Who knows?)
But Harbaugh, like us, didn\'t know just how quickly Luck\'s talent would bloom. Â He COULDN\'T know how uncannily mature Luck would be under pressure and how quickly he would learn the playbook and reads. Â Moreover entrusting a fragile team to a young QB went against his instincts. Â He identified with Tavita and seemed in his first years at Stanford to place a premium on the experienced and battle-tested Pritchard that had a few fans scratching their heads. Â
With the benefit of hindsight, I\'m not sure he\'d make the same choice now. Â But who knew then?
One thought, although I\'m not sure how far to take the analogy - Wasn\'t Harbaugh the last Indianapolis QB before Payton Manning took the Colts Helm? Â Did he see a little of himself in Tavita?

As a Freshman, players nicknamed Luck "The Truth". Â One can speculate on the what ifs, but IMO Luck playing in t 2008 gains us 2 more wins in 2009.
