Proving yet again that anyone can write for Bleacher Report ...

Too bad we can't just get rid of that McCaffrey guy.

Whoever wrote that should never be allowed to be published ever again.

Wow, that's pretty outrageous. I guess you have to pick on something to be disappointed in, and Hogan's status the last 3.5 games make it impossible to go after him. But why not go after our D-Line which is notoriously thin?

"It's hard to pick on a team that's 4-1 on the season and undefeated in conference play, but if Stanford wants to make a deep playoff run,
it will need a consistent running attacksomething McCaffrey has yet to bring to the table."
This is astonishing ignorance. Do they keep these writers locked up on a factory line? The writers are chained to a chair and are told, in order to be given food and bathroom breaks, you must produce 500 words per hour? So this guy just sits and spews anything that crosses his mind? Not an ounce of thought or background research was given to this garbage.
Re: Now This Is Funny - ChicagoCard - 10-08-2015
This thread is taking BR too seriously. Same goes for much of the SB Nation network. It's too bad that they get credentialed for some events. One of the lead guys for the U of A SB Nation site called Shaw, going into this season, the worst head coach in the Pac-12. Maybe the very same guy wrote the BR piece. And those BR slideshows... doesn't it bug anybody else that the last numbered page or slide is always actually an entirely new article?

I am not entirely sure how this works, but my impression is that anybody can volunteer to be a writer for Bleacher Report.
Throughout the other pages there are more doozies - though perhaps none to the McCaffrey's the disappointment level.
Speaking of $C's struggle with our ball control offense:
"... you can count on Notre Dame, Utah and Cal (three of USC's next four opponents) to copy the Cardinal game plan."
cal is going to run a power-run, ball control offense???
Colorado - Nelson Spruce is their biggest disappointment.
Colorado's best player is #2 in the conference in receptions, 21st in the country - along with averaging 11.7 yds per catch, a little more than Cajuste for example.
The contrast between UCLA and UW is amusing. UCLA, a team generally predicted to win the south, has as its bright spot Josh Rosen "slaying the competition". Meanwhile UW, a team predicted to be last or near-last in the north, has as their disappointment is QB Jake Browning, who "must play smarter football" if UW is to compete.
Well, compare the two. Browning has a higher PER, higher yds/att, has thrown for more yds/game, has fewer INTs, but Rosen does have more TD throws. Given what they are working with, I'd reverse the two.
on cal,
"Remember, however, that the Golden Bears are yet to begin conference play."
Despite not knowing anything about c.a.l., he almost seems to be a weenie as he keeps sliding in strangely complimentary phrases about this team whose schedule he doesn't know. In the UW write up,
"The Huskies have shown that they can compete with arguably the conference's best team in Cal."
Well, I guess that is an arguable statement. I would certainly argue the point.
-------------------------------------
And in other news of questionable journalistic tropes, the ESPN Pac-12 blog continues to write things it doesn't really believe.Â
They write,
"Did you have Cal vs. Utah as the Pac-12's most consequential game and the Week 6 national marquee in the preseason? We didn't, either."
Well the choices are: c.a.l.-Utah, UW-$C, OSU-UA, WSU-UO, and Colo-ASU. I don't see how you could have picked anything other than c.a.l.-Utah as the most consequential game this particular week.

So it is sort of WikiSports?

You know those random inputs to comment threads about, "I made $77 an hour working from my laptop at home"? It's these guys.

If only. Then, we'd be able to edit stories like the one above.

The comments thread on the BR article is pretty funny.
I suppose the article did its job, basically drawing attention to BR by trolling.

Articles like this show why it's a good idea to avoid Bleacher Report.

OK, so what
has been disappointing so far? Obviously, we've had one very disappointing game (Northwestern), but that was disappointing all around, especially on offense. After that, it has been hard to find much fault with the offense, with a quarterback who has been playing about as well as anyone in the Pac-12, a potent running back, and generally a team that has fixed most of its problems. If I were to be picky, I'd say the one thing we can work on offensively is drops by receivers, but even that has gotten better in the last few games.
On the defensive side, we've done well enough without being exceptional in any aspect. I think the two things I'd like to see more of is pressure on the quarterback and turnovers. But considering that our defensive line has been a question mark and hit by injuries, it's worth noting we are third in the conference in yards per rush given up (second in yards per game), despite having played the #2 running team in the Pac-12 (OSU and USC are 7 and 8, respectively). Our pass efficiency defense is more average (#7 in the Pac-12), I think hurt by our lack of interceptions. We are fourth in yards per attempt and yards per game. On the other hand, that's come against the #3, 9, and 12 best passing offenses in the Pac-12 (USC, Arizona, and OSU, respectively).

NCAA Annual yardage record holder is Barry Sanders, with 2,628 yards. His sophomore season, he averaged 5.7 yards per carry, same as McCaffrey. McCaffrey is a sophomore, leading the NCAA in all purpose yards.
I think this author just won the "Dead Wrong In Public" award for 2015.

Yep. Our defense has not done well at all in those areas.

Turnovers will come; the big issue is the pressure, for me. The defense has missed quite a few opportunities, unfortunately, and doesn't seem to generate enough either.
