Well, I don't know what the hell is going on. When I paste the link, nothing appears -- not embedded video, not the actual link, nothing. Let's try quoting it so people can cut and paste:

Hank, in the future, try doing this:
Code:

Wow, this is weird, it shows up as a preview but not in the actual post. Baffling error.

Hank - thanks for your persistence. Cannot believe that they produced that and got it up so quickly. That's the Science Behind the Science Behind the Catch of the Year.

Pretty amazing. By the way, I understand that ESPN will be posting The Science of Inside Skip Bayless' Brain just as soon as they figure out how to keep all of the video equipment from being irretrievably sucked in by the vacuum of the black hole that exists in there.
I do think there is something to be said for adding "Wadood (verb)" as a new dictionary entry after "Cattouse," -- as in: "He just got Wadood!"Â -- to describe what happened to a defensive back who got beaten by an amazing catch.

The SMF module that does automatic video embedding has problems with ESPN videos. I'm hoping there's a fix that we'll get the benefit of once we switch over to the next major SMF version. If not I'll try to make some time to figure out what's wrong with it.
In the meantime I've unchecked the "ESPN" box in the module's settings, so the ESPN links will just be links now.

After much deliberation, I've made an executive decision and am picking this thread to express my grievance. During the telecast, Jesse Palmer said "Another under throw by Hogan ... Owusu did all the work." That rubbed me the wrong way. Some have said that was the intended location for the throw, others have observed that it was in fact under thrown. However, to discredit Hogan's role in that play irks me. His front foot was just on the Stanford side of the 50, and Owusu first caught it about five yards deep in the end zone. I'll call it a 56-yard throw. Considering all the things Hogan was doing on that play (catch a poor pitch from Love while running basically perpendicular to Owusu's route, then quickly turn, set, and throw), I thought it was a damn impressive throw.

I'm with you. The timing of the play was off, with Owusu having beaten his man but too far downfield by the time the ball could be thrown. Hogan could have thrown it a couple of yards farther without much risk of throwing it out of the back of the end zone. But Owusu would still have to have waited for the ball and the DB would still have had time to get there and commit pass interference to (99.999% of the time) prevent the catch.

That was a pretty cool breakdown.

I particularly like the new connotation of "bear hug" and the reference to the bear trap was fun as well.Â

That was my point earlier. To throw the ball in a manner to lead Owusu sufficiently to allow him to catch the ball over the defender, Hogan would have had to have thrown it out of the endzone.

What I want to know is, did the DB get Wadoo'd, or did he get Wadooded? :D

According to this Daily article, Hogan took something off the throw so he wouldn't throw it out the back of the endzone. Also, nice historical perspective on the play.
