C.al - Oregon game - terry - 11-08-2015

I did not see the C.al - Oregon game. I see that Oregon gained 777 yards, including 477 yards rushing. It's hard to imagine those numbers. What happened? Is Oregon that good? Is C.al that bad? I thought C.al's defense was playing better this year. Did they just collapse? Did they give up? Did C.al have injuries?

Oregon certainly looks tougher than it did a month or six weeks ago.

Ca.l totally gave up.  The tackling was pitiful. Didn't get any pressure on Adams.  Oregon showed flashes of why they aren't very good, but Ca.l was determined to be worse.  They gave up 777 yards even after Adams threw two picks.

Cal's offense is just as much to blame, if not more, as its defense, because Ca.l couldn't sustain hardly anything on offense.  Plenty of stubbornness in Ca.l OC Tony Franklin, who insists on jumbo sets in short yardage that Cal has been stuffed on routinely throughout the season.  D.ykes punting on 4th an a foot from his own 30, down 13 in the 4th, when his defense was worn out.

To illustrate how inept Ca.l is...

Ca.l achieves 1st and goal from Oregon 11, trailing 31-10 with 10 seconds left and one timeout remaining, after Goff Spikes it to stop clock.

Goff goes back to pass and throws incomplete pass with like 7 secs to go, to set up 3rd and goal.

Goff goes back to pass, runs around, throws ball with one second left, incomplete.  Ca.l doesn't get any points.

The D.ykes era may have come to an end last night.

I think I watched that game objectively, until it got too boring midway through the third quarter.

This didn't look at all like the past Duck teams.  Cal, of course, looked worse.

I watched a fair amount of the game, but sporadically, I could have missed something.  But, I never saw Oregon run the zone read or options. Occasionally Adams ran a quarterback draw, but the vast majority of his runs were scrambles. Their offense is not what it used to be.

Any team can win any Saturday, certainly any Pac-12 team can beat any other Pac-12 team with a touch of luck.

Watching that game I thought I was watching the ~5th best Pac-12 team (Stanford, USC, Utah, UCLA) against the 8th or 9th best team.  Oregon is good enough that I am sure some will pick them to upset Stanford.
