Yet another pretty solid job is opening. This will be a crazy coaching offseason.
Not that I think it's likely, but I've thought a time or two about how terrible it'd be if Shaw decided to leave this time around...

Hopefully we don't need to think about it, but who would we promote? Neither Bloomgren nor Anderson really seem promotable to me, but an outside hire is pretty dangerous since we'd really like staff continuity.

Yeah, it seems tough. Coordinator-wise you have Mike Sanford, who has connections to Stanford. But he's really not much more experienced/obvious than Bloomgren and Anderson.
Mason is probably a no-go in terms of record, let alone whether he'd feel impelled to leave Vandy for Stanford.
I dunno if there's anyone else obvious. And that leaves me nervous about a theoretical Muir hire.

I think when looking at MBB the obvious lesson is how thankful we should be for FB and Coach Shaw. You can call me a sycophant but I can still remember the earlier part of this century and Stanford FB. I call them the Dark Ages. I recall sitting in on a talk given by Wlat Harris and thinking who is this putz and who does he think he is. Well, I guess he showed me.Â

Mason will not leave Vandy he is likely going to be fired after this season.

Pinkel was diagnosed with non-Hodgkins Lymphoma.

Woe is Ca.l who many think will be looking for a coach after this season. I just don't see Ca.l feeding ahead of Va Tech, USC, Minnesota, South Carolina, Miami and Missouri. They may be ahead of Maryland, Illinois and Hawaii .... or not.Â
Plus there are rumors that other big time jobs will open up as the carousel turns - Georgia, ASU, etc.
Maybe they should give Dykes one more year.

Minnesota decided to hire its interim coach. Given they're likely to be low on the pecking order, it might be a smart move.

Travis Haney, ESPN's Insider, speculates Kyle Whittingham is on the list, writing: "Indications out of Salt Lake are clear Whittingham, in his 11th season at Utah, would like to move on"

Moving to Missouri is probably, at
best, a lateral move. Whittingham would move to a bigger stage with a better chance to excel. Missouri is middling on a good day and trending down. Then there's the, ummm, recent unpleasantness. Whittingham needs that like a jab in the eye with a sharp stick. For whatever reason that is a sub-optimal situation.
The counter-argument is that chances to coach in a winning program in the big five conferences don't come along every day, but I don't think he needs to take that particular ticket out of Salt Lake City.

Of course, it depends on how much Whittingham is looking to leave. Rumors were he was close to departing last year, due to intractable conflicts with the AD. So if Whittingham despises the AD that much, suddenly a bunch of jobs look that much more attractive.

Funny how one's perspective can change when headed, presumably, for the Conference Championship Game. Maybe Whittingham now has all the leverage at Utah. Or, maybe he knows that even a conference championship spell only lasts a few weeks. Or he's looked at his roster and knows he's having a unicorn season and has to get while the getting is good, or the getting is better than the staying.
