So now we get to face the Oregon offense twice. Interesting.

I think a pretty good hire since he can recruit and coach with the best. "Oregon" in Florida. Who`d a thunk it?

If Frost is still at UCF in 2019. That's a while from now.

Enlighten us Bobk... what was the reason he left Stanford for Nebraska?

Actually Scott wasn't playing much

Two years with Walsh but threw less than 100 passes. Many flying ducks
Then back to home state Nebraska and win a national championship.
Brother Steve, our PA announcer, transferred from Nebraska to Stanford under Walsh

Another only-at-Stanford data point:Â Steve Frost, a long snapper from 1994 and 1995, was a three time Jeopardy champion.

Mark Butterfield, whom Walsh considered on several occasions to replace Stenstrom during Blockbuster Bowl season, was named started in Willingham's first year. Took us to the Liberty Bowl that year.

If Scott has three strong seasons at UCF, he won't be around UCF for the fifth.
Just too few very good coaches for too many vacancies these days. It's the age of win or leave for coaches, to a degree that seems to me without parallel in any decade I've watched football. But perhaps this year--Beamer, Richt, Sark, Miami, etc--proves an outlier.

And while Frost's team won a national championship at Nebraska, his role was mostly handing the ball off to Lawrence Phillips and the rest of the running backs and then getting out of the way. (Off the field, too; when an estranged girlfriend of Phillips took refuge in Frost's apartment, Phillips showed up and dragged her out by the hair.) Frost was drafted by the NFL not as a quarterback but as a DB, a position he played at Stanford as a freshman because Walsh wanted to get him onto the field. He hung around in the pros for five or six years, but mainly on taxi squads.
I think you need to check your timeline. If Frost ever handed off to Phillips, it was in practice during the year Frost had to sit out because of the transfer rules. (Is a player even allowed to practice with the team during that year? I honestly don't know the answer to that.) Frost handed off plenty of times to Ahman Green, but what QB in his right mind wouldn't? I agree his skill set was better suited to Nebraska's offense than Stanford's, but he played very, very well for Nebraska during his two years as the starter.Â

Yep. If Scott Frost had stayed at Stanford, he would have had to beat out Butterfield in 1995. As it was, Butterfield was the starter with Carey as the back-up. Hutchinson redshirted in 1995. In 1996, Hutchinson beat out Carey in fall camp, and Carey transferred.

Here's what I remember of Nebraska Scott Frost. I was bitter about the whole thing -- what I perceived as Bill Walsh taking his ball and going home, and Frost's departure. Then when Nebraska completed their undefeated and earned a split national championship with Michigan, Frost said (and this is pretty much a direct quote), "We feel like we're the true national champions. Everyone know what would happen if we played Michigan." Of course, he didn't mention that Nebraska had needed one of the flukiest plays in recent college football history to beat Missouri. A last second fourth-down pass from Frost was certain to fall incomplete until it hit a player's foot and bounced up into the air for a Husker to catch it. As a Michigan fan, the whole thing rubbed me the wrong way.

This is the debate that will never end.  :) As a Nebraska fan, it rubbed me the wrong way when Brian Griese's dad and his broadcast booth partner at the Rose Bowl gushed over Brian and the Michigan team (who struggled to defeat a merely OK Washington State team) and declared them national champions, all before Nebraska had even played its bowl game. If I remember correctly, the Michigan players even celebrated on the field with "National Champion" t-shirts and caps (again, all before Nebraska had played its bowl game). There was campaigning on both sides. Admittedly, the Huskers needed a fluky play to beat Mizzou. But they capitalized on it and won. And for the record, I agree with Frost; Nebraska would have thumped Michigan if they'd played that year. Sadly, we didn't get the chance to see that game.Â
