I could see the Pac12 winning each of those games.  But we'll probably drop 1-3.

Re: Full 2015-2016 Bowl Schedule - dabigv13 - 12-06-2015

Poor Vegas, getting the Mormon teams whose fans won't gamble or drink....

Re: Full 2015-2016 Bowl Schedule - French Rage - 12-06-2015

It feels like UCLA and Nebraska have played a lot recently.  But it looks like they just had that home and home a few years back.  It must be their matchups against KSU and Baylor made me remember Big12-ish teams (even though NU is Big10 they still feel Big12).

That reminds me of a remark that I think I've posted before --

When BYU fans go to a bowl game, they bring two things with them -- a copy of the Ten Commandments and a hundred dollar bill. And they don't break either of them.

Haha that's pretty excellent

Re: Full 2015-2016 Bowl Schedule - BostonCard - 12-06-2015

Winners:

Rose Bowl gets a nice match-up of Stanford and Iowa, making it the best non-semi finals game (although I would think they would have rather had Stanford - Ohio State.

Fiesta Bowl gets Notre Dame and Ohio State.  Talk about a game where tickets will be at a premium.

Alamo Bowl gets Oregon and TCU.  That should be exciting and high scoring, though I'm sure both teams are a bit disappointed to not have been their conference's champions.  This is arguably the  best non-New Year's six bowl.

Las Vegas Bowl:  The holy war and a battle of in-state rivals... for a bowl fairly low on the Pac-12 totem pole, they got lucky.

Sun bowl: They must be ecstatic to get WSU, and though Miami's situation is awkward, it's still a good match-up

Losers:
Holiday bowl: Sure they will get lots of people driving from LA, but USC/Wisconsin looks like a battle of disappointments.

Foster Farms Bowl: 5-7 Nebraska... 'nuff said.  Plus take UCLA who again Mora'd it and for a bowl that was fourth in the Pac-12 pecking order, this has gotta suck.

Armed Services Bowl: Never good when one of the teams has a coach who has mentally checked out.

Don't matter because no one will be watching:
New Mexico bowl (although I'm sure they will be happy to have an in-state team and a rival from the next state over)
Heart of Dallas Bowl
Cactus Bowl

Well, given that the Rose Bowl selected Iowa, I'm pretty sure they wouldn't rather have another team.

Re: Full 2015-2016 Bowl Schedule - BostonCard - 12-07-2015

I think the Rose Bowl would have had a hard time justifying picking a lower rated Ohio State team than a higher rated Iowa team.  They were already on record saying that they would go with the highest rated team.  But I thin deep down, they were probably hoping that MSU had beaten Iowa more soundly and that Iowa would fall behind OSU.

On the other hand, maybe they appreciated the fact that Iowa hadn't been to the Rose Bowl in 25 years, and had a fairy tale season until the very end, compared to an Ohio State team that probably was expecting to go to the playoff and was disappointed to be relegated to a New Year's Six bowl.

Clearly the Holiday bowl thinks highly of U$C (or their large number of fans).  They could have selected, I think, any of U$C, UCLA, Utah, or WSU.  I understand their going with $C, but it does sort of feel like there would be more enthusiasm from say a Utah team than another disappointed $C fan base.

Re: Full 2015-2016 Bowl Schedule - ThePassionOfTheChryst - 12-07-2015

I'm a fan of defense, but I think TCU-Oregon has the most sex appeal outside of the playoffs.  I will watch that game hand firmly planted in a bowl of popcorn, while bemoaning the state of college football.

I think the Pac-12 will be lucky to be over .500 but the top of the conference will do well.  I just don't trust anyone after Stanford/Oregon/USC.

Just to recap the matchups ...

Game
Stanford vs Iowa
Oregon vs TCU
USC vs Wisconsin
UCLA vs Nebraska
WSU vs Miami
Utah vs BYU
ASU vs WVU
UA vs New Mexico
UW vs Southern Miss
c.a.l. vs Air Force

I think most of the games don't have a line yet, but it looks to me as if the Pac 12 team will be favored in most of those, possibly all (could Air Force be favoured over our East Bay friends? Southern Miss? Wisconsin? ).

However, Bowl Games have their own weird dynamics, and the Pac will end up losing its share.

Re: Full 2015-2016 Bowl Schedule - stupac2 - 12-07-2015

Spreads:

Stanford: -6.5
Oregon: PK
USC: -3
UCLA: -6.5
WSU: -1.5
Utah: -3
ASU: -1.5 (opened as a PK)
Arizona: -11.5
Washington: -8.5
Cal: -6.5

Our instinct was right, the Pac-12 is favored in everything but the Alamo, many of them substantially. I sense another no-upside bowl season for the Pac, anything short of 8+ wins is going to be a disappointment.

Re: Full 2015-2016 Bowl Schedule - French Rage - 12-07-2015

ESPN's first predictor has us winning all of them excepts Cal's, FWIW.

Re: Full 2015-2016 Bowl Schedule - dabigv13 - 12-07-2015

I think if the Pac goes 7-3, even if that means there are some upsets, it still says a lot about our conference strength.

Still thinks its a shame there are no bowls that match SEC and PAC. Are there any other P5 conferences that routinely miss each other in bowl season? Don't think so...

The SEC has pretty killer bowl matchups, so they see no reason to change. And their at-large teams are generally attractive enough to not make it to our at-large bowls. It's just geography and enthusiasm combining to make it tough for us.

I think what matters most for perception is winning the ones against power-5 teams and BYU.  The bottom ones probably don't matter.

Yeah, the only way we get one of these is to somehow replace a Big-10/Big-12/ACC team.  Or send someone across the country for a lower level bowl, but that seems unlikely.

Re: Full 2015-2016 Bowl Schedule - BostonCard - 12-07-2015

And winning the Rose Bowl.  That will be the marquee match-up, and will be key to the perception of the Pac-12 (also, if we blow Iowa out, it will rekindle debate a bit on whether we deserved to be in).

Here are the 40(!) bowl games, ranked from best to worst.

Rose bowl is third, behind only the two semi-finals games.
