Mick is only slightly exaggerating.
To give some perspective:
As everyone knows, the Golden State Warriors are the defending NBA champs. I remember watching Golden State's only prior championship, which occurred when I was in high school. That Warriors team surprised everyone by advancing through each round of the playoffs. Games 2 and 3 of the NBA finals, which were to be hosted by the Warriors, had to be played at the Cow Palace, because the Oakland Arena management was surprised as well - the arena was booked ahead of time for an Ice Capades show. The Warriors were expected to be blown out by the star studded Washington Bullets, but instead swept the Bullets four games to none. The CBS play by play announcer? Yes, Brent Musburger. In 1975! That's a 40 year career in front of the TV.Â

If we have Musberger, then why can't they bring back Keith Jackson and his "350 pound soph-O-more" line?!  I loved that guy and he had some Stanford ties as well. His son Chris was an undergrad with us in the 80's - great guy! I thought Keith may have lived near Pasadena?

Yes, Keith Jackson was a standup individual when it came to Stanford. Why do I say that? Before Big Game 1999, Stanford was on the verge of clinching the outright conference championship and its first Rose Bowl berth in 27 years. Back then, ABC had rights to a game of the week with the Pac-10. But did ABC opt to televise the Big Game, with its relevance? No, they went for the larger market, and chose USC-UCLA, despite both teams having identical 4-6 records. Keith Jackson was ABC's play by play announcer, and he did indeed live in Southern California. But he refused to do the broadcast out of principle.

Does anyone remember the SCTV segment from around 35 years ago that made fun of Musburger, Jimmy the Greek and Pyllis George? Musburger was played by Rick Moranis I think. I can't find it on youtube :(.
Was the Moses reference a joke about Musburger's age? Harsh. Still, wonder what the age difference is between him and Jesse Palmer.

I think you're confusing Jesse Palmer with that other ESPN haircut, David Pollack, who is an $EC homer and does a lot of Stanford and Pac-12 bashing. Palmer has been a lot more sanguine and complimentary when doing our games....at least the ones I've heard.

Pollack has often been anti-Stanford and I can't figure out why. He was also pushing back on Joey Galloway and Herbie (who seemed to lean to CMac) with the Voldemort vote this week, pushing his Henry agenda. He is an SEC homer, but worse yet, anti-Stanford in many of his comments. Thank goodness the Michigan man Desmond likes us. I really hope Pollack gets pushed off these shows. I think he tries to antagonize, or maybe he's just insecure when confronted with smart and well spoken student athletes from Stanford. Maybe Denny Greene dissed him, but he needs to go.
