I predict there will be moaning about the placement of the USC game.

Well it's going to be week 2, right? Is there another Pac-12 team that could take the early slot?
Incidentally, holy crap, if it is week 2 USC will start the season on the road at a neutral-site game against Alabama, and then on the road against us. Maybe it won't be just because that would be too brutal.

Questions that may only interest me (but maybe others too):
Which conference opponent will Stanford play in week 2?
Stanford plays 6 home games next season. How many will take place before the students arrive?
Where on the schedule is/are the bye week(s)?
Which opponents get a bye week before playing Stanford?
Stanford will probably play a Thursday or Friday conference game. Which one?
Is Big Game in its traditional slot on the 3rd weekend of November?

Our schedule as it stands right now has:
September 2 (Friday) home against Kansas State
October 15 at Notre Dame
November 26 home against Rice
Hopefully, we will play at Cal November 19th, which would leave 9 dates for 8 games. I would guess there is a good chance we have a Thursday night game, so our bye would be before then. With any luck, if we have a Thursday game, it will be the week before Notre Dame to give us a couple extra days for that game.
September 26th is the first day of school; if the pattern holds new undergrads would arrive the 20th and housing for returning students would open the 22nd, which means that we will probably be scheduled for home games on both the 10th and 17th. In all seriousness, it would be nice if at least one of those were a road game.
Among our Pac-12 opponents (save Cal):
USC has an open date the 17th.
Arizona has an open date the 10th.
OSU has an open date the 10th.
None of the other Pac-12 schools we would play have open dates in the second or third week of the season.
That means it will likely be USC at Stanford on the 17th.
We might have a bye on the 10th (if the Pac-12 pairs OSU and Arizona) or we might play at UofA or host OSU.
My preference would be for the season to start:
Sept. 2: Kansas
Sept. 10: at Arizona
Sept. 17: USC (not my preference, but there is little getting around the fact that they are the only opponent available, so we either both take byes or play each other).
Hosting OSU might be a better warm up for USC, but that would mean that we would have only 3 home games in our last 9 and that we'd play half our home games before students arrived. Either way, I predict there will be a lot of complaining about the schedule, because as usual, we will likely have at least two home games before students arrive, and as is typical for even years, we will have a brutal back end road stretch.

My only question is which home game they will schedule for 12 midnight in order to lock up that coveted 3 am Sunday viewing slot on the East Coast...?

Nope, would be week three if they play us early. They are already scheduled to play Utah State on 9/10, so they will catch a little break between Alabama and us.

Not happy about the early bye. No chance to recover when injuries pile up later in the season.

Here's my thought -- that stretch of games Week 2 through Week 6 is formidable.
U.SC probably has more young talent than anyone in the conference.
UCLA loses a lot, but they'll still be good.
Washington has a great defense and a young quarterback who should be better.
Washington State is going in the right direction and should've beaten us this year.
N.otre Dame is still N.otre Dame.

Better, unless we're in the CCG, than what they gave one of the Az schools this year:Â bye after final game.

Ugh, seriously, not great. At least it means only 1/3 of home games are before students arrive, which is something...
Although, really what jumps out to me is @UCLA then @Washington on a Friday. Winning both of those will be
hard.

The schedule is tough, but keep in mind that UCLA's home field advantage will be minimal because Stanford will have so much experience playing in the Rose Bowl.

Rice on Nov. 26? What a dud to end the season. We should be blaming...the AD's office, right?

We have to schedule someone there.
Honestly I would not be very sad if we just stopped playing ND. Causes a lot of scheduling headaches.

Well, on the bright side, there is only one time on the schedule with back-to-back road games, and even that is at Oregon and at Ca.l, which is pretty much a home game.
Playing Rice can be thought of as a bye of sorts before the conference championship game.
