MBK: Stanford beats Depaul 79-60 - fullmetal - 12-15-2015

Given that we lost to DePaul 72-87 last season, I am somewhat encouraged...

Edited title: Stanford wins!

Re: MBK: Stanford leads Depaul 75-58 with 2:33 to go - JJJ - 12-15-2015

I like that they are playing "Hail, Stanford, Hail" after the game. Can be heard in the background now.

Decent win, though DePaul is not a very good team.  Much better test coming against UT in a few days.

What's with the new tree?  They showed a dancing palm tree tonight.  Hasn't it been a willow?

Re: MBK: Stanford beats Depaul 79-60 - BobK - 12-15-2015

great motion great ball movement tonight. This has been missing for years.
10 of 19 from three, great shooting but also with the quick pasing great looks.
DePaul has three starters back from the team that beat us last year.

Bring on Shaka

I'm flying into SJC Thursday morning but will be busy Sat night with a family dinner...so sad to miss this game!  ESPN will keep me apprised of the score via technology...

Wasn't that a prior year's tree?  Goes along with LSJUMB tradition to include old farts, I suppose.  Stanford's fall quarter ended last week, so I would guess the current tree and other LSJUMB regulars are away on break.

Haven't had a chance to watch the game, but I see from the box score that Christian Sanders had 6 assists and 0 turnovers, and as a team Stanford had a 17:12 assist-to-turnover ratio.

FWIW, Sagarin has Stanford ranked #73, with all three losses to top 50 schools. Texas, our next opponent, is #33.

This year's DePaul is not the same as last year's.  They are 5-5 with what looks like a pretty weak preseason schedule.  Preseason they were ranked in the bottom half of all D1.

3 starters returned for DePaul so somewhat like last year 😄

Ken Pomeroy has DePaul 158th on offense and 207th on defense after last night's game (rankings were silghtly better but in the same ballpark before the game).  So I don't think that an easy-ish win over a bad team says much about us.

One positive note: Malcolm Allen played a few minutes at the end when the game was out of hand (pun intended).  He had a bandage on his wrist/thumb and seemed to be a bit bothered by it.  No idea what the injury or prognosis is.

I'm not sure that playing basketball is the best way for one to work through a bothersome wrist or thumb.

Sounds like a borderline NIT team.

You are correct. This year's tree is home for the holidays so they have some substitutes wearing whatever costume is easiest (palm tree was last year's). Apparently, the weeping willow is very unwieldy.

An article on the selection of this year's tree:

The costume shown in the article is an old one. She created the weeping willow after the selection last spring.
