Rose Bowl DNPs -
TrumpCard - 01-03-2016
As far as I can tell, the scholarship players who are not redshirting, who don't have a publicly disclosed injury, and who are not listed on the participation report are: Dontonio Jordan, Jake Bailey, and Jesse Burkett.Â
Jordan tweeted that he wished he could be with his teammates at the Rose Bowl and that he's anxious for one more year. I presume he suffered an injury. Can anyone confirm? The part about one more year is welcome news, especially if it's true that Rector is leaving.
Does anyone know whether there is a specific reason that Bailey and Burkett didn't play or whether the DNPs just reflected that it's difficult to find snaps for everyone?Â

How much has Bailey been playing for us? It seems like Ukropina won the kicker spot and Robinson won the punter spot. There's not much room on the field for a 3rd kicking specialist.

Bailey had some punts for us, but it may have been early in the year?
At any rate, I saw him in the sideline in sweats and his jersey. So I presume he was injured.

Bailey has been our regular punter for short punts -- inside the 50 yard line.

Not long ago we asked, "Can anybody kick?" Now we have too many kickers. Fire Shaw. LOL

I believe I read that Shaw said a few days before the game that Bailey was sick (quote was something like "we're 99% healthy, only issue is Bailey is sick), but was expected to be good for the game. I would assume that him not playing was because he was not recovered from the illness.Â

Thanks everyone. The info about Bailey's illness makes the omission of Burkett on the participation report even more interesting. It would be too bad if there were exactly one healthy, non-redshirt, scholarship player who did not get a snap in the game. I know it's not AYSO, but I'd like to think there's an opportunity in a 35-0 blowout for all of those guys to get at least one snap.

I thought Bailey was the kicker who kicked several kickoffs out of bounds against USC, and then got replaced by Ukropina on kickoffs. Maybe I'm mistaken?

I'm not sure if it was that clear-cut, but Bailey was doing most of the kickoffs early in the year, while Ukropina was doing most or all of them later. My impression is that Bailey could kick deeper but Ukropina was more consistent. It is also true that Bailey did the short punts pretty much all year.

Here is his personal stat page from the official site:
http://paramountsports.com/football/stanford-vs-iowa-rose-bowl-2016-college-football/
He is listed as having had 10 punts and 65 kickoffs, including 7 vs U$C in the conference championship game. Ukropina had 31 kickoffs (and the final, very short kickoff in the CCG).
I noticed that our kickoffs were significantly shorter than usual in the Rose Bowl, apparently because of the sickness mentioned.

Thanks, CTcard. I was going by memory, and either never noticed or forgot that Bailey did most of the CCG kickoffs.
