Surprised U$C isn't higher. This is usually when they shine in the polls.

I don't know if that writer cannot count, cannot read our depth chart, or knows something we don't.
Apparently a critical problem for us is replacing three starting OL?

Perhaps the "low" rating means Kevin Hogan is finally getting the respect he deserves?

Re: It's already time for way-too-early rankings season - FarmBoy - 01-07-2016

It's common for football analysts to misinterpret our player guide. We're on of the few (only?) teams that list players based on academic standing, not football eligibility. I've seen misquotes of us losing 3/5 or 4/5 of our line to graduation.

Re: It's already time for way-too-early rankings season - stupac2 - 01-07-2016

I've been seeing that we're graduating 3/5 of the OL everywhere this year. It's surprising that no one in the media seems to have learned from it, since they do this pretty much every year.

It's even more surprising given that Shuler and Caspers are in the same position (seniors but three years of eligibility used). I wonder which one the 3/5ths people have leaving us.

Must say I'm nearly shocked UCLA isn't on that list.

Do THIS year's final ranking come out next week?  Does the PO committee issue one or just AP, coaches, etc.?

I know this question is 4 days old, but I just heard that if Alabama "wipes the floor with Clemson" then we have a shot at jumping them into the #2 slot at the end! Is there any chance of this? Because Rule of Tree suggested not rooting for Henry...

Quote:The national championship will be played tonight when Alabama takes on Clemson. Watch that game. You can root for whoever you want and being this is a heavy pro-Stanford page, I'm sure Derrick Henry is not one of those people to root for.

That made me laugh out loud -- the old fashion way, not just typing it.  I nominate that for post of the week. :)

Re: It's already time for way-too-early rankings season - indiancardinal - 01-12-2016

Yes... I am finally happy to see Wilner come through and put Washington ahead of us. I wish the national media would also do the same and pick us to finish 3rd or 4th in the Pac. They can have their pick of reasons - breaking in new QB, loss of 3 OL or whatever else they can think of to keep Stanford in its place.

I just want our guys to carry that chip on their shoulder all off season long and then come out full force in September and show the world where we belong. We need this perennial "chip" to keep the momentum of the Program going☺

Re: It's already time for way-too-early rankings season - ColoradoTree - 01-12-2016

I have no problem with Wilner picking us 14th, especially since he ranked us 3rd in the final AP poll this year.  In contrast to some others, he's actually been somewhat complimentary of Hogan and realizes how difficult it will be to replace him.

Heck, losing Hogan, Garnett, Murphy, Hooper, Cajuste, and Rector ain't nothing.  I know we think highly of their probable replacements, but it's reasonable to expect a dip in replacement performance.

Of course, if we come in and start the season off well, I would expect Wilner will reflect that in his rankings (which, in his credit, he usually does).  Heck, if we get through that early tough stretch of our schedule at 6-0, I wouldn't be surprised if he (and others) have us ranked at #1.  No other team could match that early-season resume.

Re: It's already time for way-too-early rankings season - fullmetal - 01-12-2016

I've seen early rankings placing Stanford 12th-14th and still the highest-ranked Pac-12 team.  I know there are questions to be answered regarding QB and defense, but all the same, I'd like to have the margin for error that high preseason rankings provide...
