I can't stand the Carolina Panthers. All the posing and posturing after big plays, or even mediocre plays, is just awful. Going for two with 4+ minutes left, please. I respected Ron Rivera, but that was worse the Harbaugh going for two to get 50 against SC. With neither team having a Stanford product, I'll be rooting for Elway's team, yet again.
The fact that Cam Newton won the Voldemort over Luck still perturbs me, especially after the SEC commish saying, "Yes, his daddy did break our rules, but I've not enforced that rule before, nor have my predecessors, so I'm not about to start now--he can play. . . ."
Brady vs Manning was great, classy football. The second feature, not so much.

You're right, you're an old white guy. The Panthers are fine. And calling sexual-assaulter and probable-HGH-user Manning classy is, well, kinda rich.

the Broncos won because of their defense not Manning.
the missed PAT will haunt Gostkowski for a long time

He may be, but he's not wrong about Peyton. Guy has a really good PR team, and the good fortune of being born with the right skin color.

I'm definitely not a Cam fan and haven't seen enough of his games to comment intelligently on how well he plays. But he's clearly willing and able to take a pounding, and he seems to be the rare highly-drafted QB who's actually living up to his draft assessment.
He's cocky and I wonder what his teammates really think about him, but I think he's deserving of the accolades he's getting right now.

I'm with you, cardcrimson, all this "One, Two, Three, Look at Me" BS is just one of the things that makes the NFL an unwatchable game for me. The NFL sucks. But I will be pulling for Manning and the Broncos vs Carolina...even though I won't be watching it.

Cam is way beyond cocky. There isn't a word in the English language that describes his grandiose super-human bow-down-to-me attitude.

Half right, I'm a Pats fan but I'm not bitter (at least now Manning gets to take the bullet of being clobbered by the Panthers, I had no real hope for winning the Owl this year). I just find this sort of hypocrisy and pearl-clutching ridiculous. If some guys celebrating their TDs too enthusiastically makes you dislike the NFL, then I think you have some serious problems.
Also, I think the Stanford fanbase needs to just get the hell over the issues with Cam. He had a better season than Luck did. Of all the gripes we have about Voldemort voting, that is by far the least legitimate. I also don't know how in the world you could see the smiles on those little kids' faces when he hands them a game ball and not like him. How many other people in the NFL are doing that?

I'm not white and don't feel old but the NFL hasn't been fun since Howard Cosell stopped doing halftime during Monday Night Football.

What is the story about Peyton being a sexual assaulter? I thought the HGH story was completely discredited. What am I missing?
The NFL is not very interesting to me. But I do root for Stanford players in the NFL, and of course have always pulled for the Mannings as Ole Miss royalty. Archie was a phenomenal QB and has always been a good guy. I never heard a negative comment about Peyton or Eli, so would like to know what the story is on Peyton and if there is one about Eli.Â
I saw a brief spot on Cam Newton where the commentators said that you (meaning the men watching) don't like Cam Newton because your wife or girlfriend does. He seems like kind of a show-off to me, but so what?

Peyton dropped his drawers and exposed himself to a female trainer while she was treating him in college.

Which is his side of the story. Her side of the story is that he actually sat on her face, including behind and genitalia.Â

Cam Newton has his own skeletons in his closet. When he was at Florida, he was found in possession of a stolen laptop, which he chucked out the window when the police showed up. He left Florida to avoid being expelled for several instances of academic cheating. And there were the reports that his family auctioned off his services when he transferred to Auburn, though nothing was proved. . . .

To me, Cam's attitude can be summed up in that gif: "As they say...it's an ongoing investigation."
He's very talented, and I feel that he's made the Panthers' offense a contender much in the way DeShaun Watson made the Clemson offense a contender, but I see no other redeeming value in Cam aside from his football talent. Perhaps he'll be a good person one day.

I have to admit, that I'm biased against Cam because of Andrew's loss (theft) as college's best player. My mind links Andrew and Cam together as a yin/yang sort of thing.Â
I've watched the last two Carolina games and, even given his excellent supporting cast (i.e. O-line), he seems to make consistently good, intelligent decisions on the field. And he has the physicality and athleticism to complete the decision.
Then, there is the big disconnect in post-game interviews, where he can't seem to utter a complete sentence, wears a stupid towel on his head, doesn't look the interviewer in the eye or even face the camera and, frankly, doesn't seem to be the sharpest nail in the toolbox.Â
So, I can't figure the guy out. He is in the right place at the right time and, hopefully, has the off-field maturity to not mess up his moment. I'm predicting he somehow will. And, while he seems to be the leader of the team, hard to explain the pre-season fight--something that just doesn't happen to QB's.Â
And I feel bad for Andrew...in Indy with a front office that just doesn't get get it. When you have the player of the next decade, it doesn't take a rocket scientist to opt for sacrificing a season or two by forgoing defensive assets to build your O-line (maybe Indy needs to hire a rocket scientist to point this out).Â
I'm worried that Andrew may never fully recover from a potentially life-threatening injury (renal laceration) or career-altering injury (right shoulder). Or the untold effects of accumulated brutal hits over the last four years.
If I were Andrew (and his values would never allow him to do this), I'd sit a year until the Indy front office figures it out and takes some action. I get pissed thinking about this.Â

As an avowed Andrew Luck partisan and Broncos fan, I'm not inclined to gush over Cam, but it's hard to see him give each post-touchdown football to a little kid in the stands and not see something redeeming. And I
like that he appears to have a lot of fun playing this game. It does not dishonor the game to demonstrably enjoy playing it.Â

I don't know that the HGH story was discredited. Seems likely that his wife was receiving shipments of HGH without an actual medical diagnosis to warrant it. It would be nearly impossible to prove that given medical confidentiality laws, but that's the way it seems. Not too much of a leap to then presume he would've been the actual user of the medication.

1. Cam has a checkered history, and that's being generous;
2. Cam is a GREAT NFL talent, and a very very good NFL QB;
3. Cam has a charisma that is undeniable;
4. Cam's personal TD antics . . . to each his/her own - hard to get worked up one way or the other; and
5. The Panthers are going to DESTROY the Broncos (I see redux of the Seattle blowout coming, and it's going to be ugly). Indeed, that's the only reason I was marginally rooting for New England over the Broncos - if the Pats had won, then the Super Bowl at least had a minor chance of being interesting. Not now. (Fortunately, I don't give a rat's a$$ about the NFL, so whatever . . . ).
